Jacks action was to stay, staying next to a lit stick of Dynamite would be considered suicide and Alpert couldn't Kill himself any way.

And candidates can die just can't/couldn't be killed by each other or MIB or via an action that puts them directly in danger ( like the Alpert scene)

I also do not think it was MIB's job to protect the island, not Jacob's. Jacob's mom was very clear on that.

Yet the first time Jack actually Pursues MIB he almost dies falling of a cliff

Yeah I just watched that epsiode - it was actually Danielle who told them that it was a security system. When they asked her what it was there for, she said to protect the island. But did she fully know what she was talking about? I don't know...

I did notice a change in Smokey's sound effects. Early on there is a lot of clicking/chirping (kind of like a dolphin) and what I took to be the sound of chains clanking. Weird.

My point was that the French chick was the first one to actually voice the notion that Smokey is a security system in the show, and I was wondering how much she really knew about MIB/Smokey.

Oh, ok - thanks for clarifying who said that.

So, why would MiB protect the island? I thought he wanted it destroyed.

That is a question that will never be answered.

It isn't that He wanted to protect it but he had no real choice, The Island was his prison and Jacob was the warden

Candidates can be killed by each other - hence the bomb exploding and killing Sun and Jin.

Regarding the dynamite, didn't Jack light the fuse? If so, then that's why neither died. Of course all of this makes very little sense. lol

How can he be the security system, and the prisoner. . . and want the island destroyed so he could leave?

I didn't think he was "protecting" anything.

What do you think he was protecting?

I agree - he was there to kill, not protect.

I am with ya, it seems more like he was trapped there and causing chaos as opposed to protecting anything. That's why I mentioned Danielle - perhaps when she said Smokey was the island's security system she was making assumptions and was just plain wrong...

Dude, did we watch 2 different shows or what
How it was his job to protect the island, where did you hear/see that?
All that guy(MIB) ever wanted to get off of that island and he clearly didn't mind sinking it along with its protectors. Jacob was the protector, and that was clear from their dialog back in ab aeterno episode, in case it wasn't clear enough in "across the sea".
MIB always want to leave, his brainwashed brother threw him down the well with fuzzy/deadly yellow light, he became MIB. Nowhere in the show it was asserted the MIB title included job of the protector.

Rousseau did say it was a security system, but she clearly had no clue what was happening, considering things in S6.

He wasn't protecting, he was just roaming around...that's all he could do. It was the people's assumption that he was some type of protection.

Alternatively, it was like Cymbol suggested, and I tend to think the same. All those mechanical sounds, mentioning of security system in early seasons, IMHO it's a clear indication the show was headed into different direction and later for the lack of effort or imagination or both they ended up with smoke coming out of the life giving light well which also has bunch of skeletons and electromagnetic features...

Sun wasn't meant to be there, Hence why she never went back to the 70's

Wanting to do something and doing another while waiting for your chance to leave are 2 different things.

All the Killing MIB does is in search of that Loop hole, He knew what the Loop hole was for a long time but had to wait for the right person/people for it too work and he found that person in season 1 where he comes at lock for the first time.

I should also Add that I have only seen season 6 once, although I did just get started on it again today, watched the LAX episode/s

So I finished watching season 6 last night and to be honest I found it so much better this second time round than seeing it weekly instalments like before.

Is also the first time I have seen season 1-6 back to back and I must say I love how the character stories end but the one big black mark in season 6 for me is the " Across the sea" episode, is just terrible for me, but the "Ab Aberto" Episode is one of the best of the show.

I could go on a mad typing spree and post all my thoughts and opinions on everything but I am simply not going too.
Instead I am simply going to say that this is without a doubt the Best TV show I have ever seen and one of the few Media entertainment pieces which holds a certain emotional grip on a viewer.

Will we ever get such a great show again

6. The whispers explanation really bothers me. We first hear a distinct phrase when Sawyer hears "It'll all come back around" in the jungle. The guy who said that to him is the guy he killed in Sidney. Obviously that guy was never on the island. The explanation we later get, from Michael (which, by the way, felt way too forced) was that the whisperers were those who couldn't move on - they were trapped on the island. Not only is the explanation post-hoc (makes you wonder what they originally intended the whispers to be....bet that was a better explanation), but it's inconsistent with Season 1.

7. The numbers. I get now that Rousseau and her team heard the numbers on a transmission, followed their origin, and landed on the island. Rousseau then re-recorded the numbers. Some guys in Australia monitoring transmissions picked up on it and went crazy, and then Hurley heard them in some mental institution. I think they could've done an awesome job with this if, when he was traveling back in time in 1977, Hurley was the guy who recorded the transmission that Rousseau's team heard. That could've been neat. Since he didn't, I'll just assume it was Jacob (even though obviously the LOST guys never even considered a "Jacob" character in Season 1.

8. The Swan Orientation video. Watching that again after Seasons 5 and 6 is so rewarding when Dr. Candle (or is it Chang? ) explains the Incident. We obviously know what that Incident was, and it's cool. But didn't Chang leave the island with his son in Season 5? I'm confused.

9. When I first watched Seasons 1 - 5, I really loved Jack and was on "his side." It's so funny to watch it now, knowing that everything he says is wrong, and everything Locke says is right.

The Whispers for some of the Survivors are very specific to them yes and yes the Sawyer whisper does sound a lot like the man from Sydney but it doesn't mean it is specifically Him.

Chang Didn't leave the Island as shown is season 5.

.
Do you think it was someone else who was trapped on the island that was aware of Sawyer's conversation with the guy?

Thanks for the clarification re: Chang, I couldn't remember.
