Generally i found the colour wasn't too bad here really but once I got it in my head it might be a RItro-grade I dialled back the temp a note to pull a little of Lil' that yellow out of the whites. The contrast mishandling and grey green blacks are the main things stopping this one from being an out and out winner for me. |

Like Geoff said, it's probably more obvious to you on an OLED that the bars are raised. My black bars get pretty damn black thanks to FALD, but OLED's would still be blacker.

It's technically edge-lit though they still say FALD in some of the literature, so I use that as shorthand (though I guess I shouldn't). Lesser local dimming is definitely the set's main drawback compared to more expensive LEDs like yours, but I didn't care at the time because I used a bias light which made it rather irrelevant.
I tried it out in a pure dark room a couple months ago though and was surprised to see the local dimming was improved a lot since I bought it, I guess through firmware. I know I did tests when I got it and saw a lot of blooming, but I pretty much never see it now except when there's bright white letters in the center of black, i.e. opening credits. Black bars are always stone black (for an LED), I assume because those edges are off or whatever. I am tempted to go back to bias lighting though, to eliminate the opening credits issue and give me eyes a rest. |

Well the 4K of First Blood is miles better than the included Blu-ray. The Blu-ray is horrible. I think the German Blu-ray from the white trilogy digibox box set is better. Even though the HDR is subtle on the 4k it really improves the murkiness of the Blu-ray.

Because that's an arseache to keep typing out whenever we have cause to complain about them, which happens a lot.

I have an OLED, and the letterbox bars on my B6 remain perfectly pitch black. When I referred to the elevated blacks in the UHD for First Blood, I was clearly talking about the fact that during darker scenes in the film, they weren't interested in making the image look 'punchy' or contrast heavy. It's not an issue for me at all. In fact, by having a set with self-emitting pixel technology, I've never had issues with discs that have elevated blacks. The image doesn't look 'washed out' or anything along those lines, just soft, which I'm sure is the intention, anyway. |
