Probably not the Blu-Ray drive then, when mine was on it's last leg it would freeze during the initial load of games or Blu-Ray movies and sometimes just sit in XMB constantly loading the icons.

Try turning off the internet on it too. Could be something with the wifi.

Not to scare you, but mine kept freezing during kz2 before ylod-ing

Bluray movies are starting to freeze on my 80gig BC PS3. is it the lens? my ps3 is pretty dusty also. could it be the dust?

This problem first started with a movie i just bought called spy game. ever since then all my movies have been freezing. any ideas? could it be the movie?

If I was out of warranty with my still unYLOD 60GB I would opening it up to clean that dust out of there anyway. It can only be hurting and can't be helping at all. Basically quick/partial disassembly and blow that sucker out.

I just tried another movie and it works fine. it seems right after i play spy game, then put in another movie, thats when other disc start to freeze. but the spy game disc doesn't have any scratches on it?

All eletronic products are strange in some way or another. I don't think your Spy Game disk hurts or fixes anything.

A more educated guess is that, something is wrong with your PS3, although it might be a minor issue at this point. You've mentioned about it being dusty, I would say that sounds like a main cause of your problems. Don't be lazy, doing some cleaning around it or even cleaning the whole room. Then get yourself a can of compressed air and blow clean it a bit first.

Well i just cleaned off my PS3 and use a can of compressed air on it. im about to try my exchanged copy of spygame on it. this is my 4th time exchanging it for a new copy at bestbuy.

How can it be my PS3 if other movies work on it but not spy game? only when i play that movie first then other movies start freezing also.

This sux i was hoping maybe the update would fix my ps3 issue but did'nt. I guess i need a new hdd since theres no way to remove corrupted system files.

Did you already rebuild the database using the secret menu?

Try to database rebuild per Marine Mike's suggestion. If that doesn't work, yes, you'll likely need a new HDD. Files corrupt for a reason--either there's a read/write error that mucks up the file (fixable), or the actual sector is bad (unfixable).

They don't make 'em like they used to--HDD fail rates seem to be getting worse and worse, no matter what device they're in.

I had a problem as well and instead of doing the data base rebuild I just did the restore file option which does NOT wipe out any info on the HDD and it fixed my corrupt space on my disk. I was afraid I had a bad HDD, just replaced with a 500 GB drive but did what Mike said and went into the secrete menu did the file restore which detected corrupt files and fixed it just like that, I did this like 5 min ago and all is well so a big thank you to Mike, saved me a ton fo time of what I thought was having to replace my HDD.

Just took my PS3 apart all the way to the heat sink to clean out the dust, and the blu-ray lens, to see if that would help my ps3 from freezing on NCAA... it was quite interesting.. I didn't put new thermal paste back on either, and it works fine..

Hi guys
Can anyone give me a link showing the functions of different parts in the controller.

Because something very strange happened to me.
The controller's battery started to drain fast and the controller becomes hot in the area between the analog sticks.
So I opened the controller and removed the small board plugged to the main controller's board (the one with 4 wires) thinking it will never work again

....but it did

...everything is working just fine. Including the sensor ,all the buttons,charging and charge indicator.

And the battery stopped draining .

So what was that piece for????

Hey guys i got a problem with my (launch day) 60gb ps3. I was about to watch a blu- ray movie when it went blank .There is sound only with some movies but with others nothing ...(and its weird cause i can play ps3 games like nothing)..I try cleaning the lens already but still the same ...could i be needing a new lens..

If its just audio, then it doesn't necessarily sound like a laser issue. Have the movies without sound been consistent?

nope for now it only hapens with --coraline--and--benjamin button-- i been able to watch forbidden kingdom for like 10 mins.
