Was just meaning to ask about the compression issues. Besides the "boobage pixellation" scandal for 2, I honestly didn't notice any issues in HDR-10 for the first or second film. Granted I only have a 51-inch screen at the moment (yes, I know, the horror), but my eyes didn't pick up on any artifacting. For those that have seen the Dolby Vision version, how much better would you say it is than the HDR-10?

All but confirmed. I’m certain the rest will follow. Very likely this year.

I just hope that both cuts of H6 get the 4K treatment. I’m gonna be mighty bummed if only one of them gets it.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Obviously Scream would love to license them (and I would love to purchase them from Scream) but just because Paramount is licensing out Miramax/Dimension titles, doesn't mean it's a guarantee we'll get the Halloween films, much less in 4K.

Remember that Paramount has yet to license out a title to Shout/Scream for an actual 4K release. 4K scans are OK, but so far the Shout/Paramount releases have only been standard BD. For example, see Scream's release of Escape from LA; sourced from a 4K scan for Scream's standard BD release but the actual 4K disc is coming from Paramount. And with Halloween being a pretty big property with the new films, Paramount may want to re-release H6-8 themselves. Not that that's something people want but since when do studio executives care what we think?

Again, I'd love for this to change and that we do get full-fledged 4K releases of these films, but presently nothing is guaranteed.

Cliff from Shout all but confirmed it. When asked why all 10 films weren’t being released he said it’s because doing all 10 films in 4K at once would be impossible and that “they had to split it up somehow”. That’s pretty much saying it without actually saying it.

That's not really saying or hinting at anything. I've seen the stream you're talking about from this past summer on the jibber jabber podcast youtube channel. When asked why Scream wasn't doing the other 3 pre-Rob Zombie films, Cliff MacMillan's response about breaking up the releases doesn't guarantee anything. It could be that he was just trying to dodge the question a bit by not giving the interviewer a straight answer.

You're making an assumption from that one statement that Scream choose to spent the money to license 3 other films only to sit on those rights for a year, which makes no sense from a business perspective, rather than the more likely explanation that Scream simply chose not to pursue the rights for any more Halloween films at that time because they were already busy enough putting out 1-5.

And as I said in my last past, presently Paramount isn't licensing out for 4K releases, only Blu Ray. Unless something changes, the best we can expect is that H6-8 would come out from Scream as Blu Ray only. If in the coming months Scream announces another Miramax/Dimension title for release on 4K, than I might be inclined to think differently, but until then there's nothing to support what you're saying except this one, very vague comment.

I agree. I remember hearing that mentioned also. Would be a strange response if they weren't in the pipeline.

A lot of people got introduced to the Halloween franchise seeing H20. It's Nostalgia for them nowadays. Anyway...

I like 5 as a campy low budget supernatural film. That's how I saw it first so 1,2,3, and 4 didn't exist in my mind then. I also liked TMNT The Movie 1990 but yeah Turtle's that fight like Bruce Lee that's whack or something, but it's actually really funny and that's what gets me to sit down to an ancient movie the absurdity of it is fun too when you look back. Thumb kills are 1 of Michaels best prove me wrong I just thought of him as a supernatural whacko, and that's more fun than a lot of Halloween movies. It also introduced me to the final girl trope. Sorry Laurie

I remember even when I was young I didn't really like the film either. Never clicked with me.

Me either. It’s too simple, bland, and tame. Especially coming after the incredibly badass H4-H6. Michael in H20 was a gigantic puss. Super weak. Likely the weakest Michael of them all. He got embarrassingly owned by Laurie. The whole movie felt neutered. Overall it was a cool idea but the execution was pretty poor.

That said, it’s not a total loss. I would still take it over everything that came after, most especially these last two embarrassments.

H20 was a breathe of fresh air after the trash that was 5 and 6 despite its terrible masks. Not as awesome as the new films though, Micheals back to being pure evil No more Uncle Boogey man crying, no more lame cults, no more Antman stopping Micheal by placing stones on the ground, and of course no more Micheal committing incest/rape lol Glad the new films prove Halloween can be successful at the box office after that thorn crap almost killed the franchise.

Shout!'s 4K shows us at last the full reality of late twentysomethings in California.

Has this been posted yet? It's not official but it's still badass. If the real one is anywhere close to this it'll be sweet.
