I'm just glad they finally put "Destino" someplace.

You don't have to buy anything, they do send you some emails from time to time but not a lot. As a matter of fact you might be able to turn it off completely im not sure.

It is definitely worth signing up though because almost every disney blu ray released so far has a coupon, usually 10 dollars off (I think a couple have been only $8?) that you can use around the release date at any store.

Thanks. Sounds like it's worth doing. Does amazon sometimes match these coupons with their own?

That's why they put Destino on the Fantasia 2000 Disc.

From the review, F2000 looks as AMAZING as Fantasa. So I don't know what you're smoking.

Yeah, I don't understand hate for Fantasia 2000. I prefer the original, but the only real flaws I found with the sequel was as the reviewer pointed out, the celebrity intros, and maybe the shorter runtime, but neither are really all that bad. It deserves some respect, because after all it's one of the very few sequels to an animated classic that is also part of the animated classics canon. There's only The Rescuers Down Under, Fantasia 2000, and soon, for all intents and purposes, Winnie the Pooh.

Wouldn't exactly call RDU "deserving of respect", but F2K does deserve to be considered its own entity.
It's not "replacing" the original (as was Eisner's original idea, claiming Walt as historical justification), and nobody's forcing you to watch it either....It's simply a film made to Fantasia's original specifications using the current animators' ideas: If Eric Goldberg's flamingos are a bit too "light" for classical canon, Freddie Moore's centaurettes or Ward Kimball's ostriches weren't the most ponderous art from the most serious-minded animators either. That's probably why they put a year on the title, and not a Roman numeral.

Just as an aside (feel free to ignore it), Fantasia enthusiasts should check out Tezuka's Legend of the Forest, currently available on DVD as part of The Astonishing Work of Tezuka Osamu (worth buying for that short alone, but the rest is cool too).

Now I'm imagining an alternate universe where Fantasa was successful and over the years of Disney adding more and more segments too it, Tezuka got a chance to animate a segment.

I work in animation, and I heard a great story about Fantasia 2000...

The surviving members of the nine old men- Marc Davis, Frank Thomas, Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnston were invited to the studio to view a pose reel for the Donald Duck Pomp and Circumstance sequence. When they arrived, Roy Disney told them for old time's sake, they would like each of them to animate one scene in the cartoon. They could pick any scene they wanted from the animatic.

They sat down in a screening room and the animatic was shown to them. It was awful. At the end of it, there was a brief uncomfortable silence, and Marc Davis said, "if you'll excuse me for a moment gentlemen, I have to use the restroom." He got up and left, and while he was gone, Roy spoke excitedly about how this would be the continuing of Walt's vision for Fantasia. He got around again to asking if they saw any scenes that they would like to animate. The old guys hemmed and hawed and said they should wait for Marc to come back from the bathroom.

A few minutes went by and Kimball got up and volunteered to go find Marc. Frank and Ollie sat there smiling nervously At Roy for a few minutes, and finally Ollie whispered, "You know Frank, I don't think Ward and Marc are coming back." They got up, shook Roy's hand with a sheepish smile and said goodbye.

You won't hear that story in the supplements!

Good story! Funny!

But I still like 2000 almost as much as the original. And for me it wasn't Roy who killed disney animation, but Eisner, Pixar, etc..
