I'd be mad at that price drop but it has been about a month since I bought it so....

Not sure $5 is "huge" but good to see it drop a bit.

A price of $24.99 is a bigger drop than $5.00. I paid $36.99 for the UHD HDR version when it was first released in June. That said, I still think my money was well spent. What a great, great film!

It was $32 at Best Buy day one when I got it, so I guess that's $7. In any event I'd call a huge drop something that puts it around the other studio's prices. This is a silly argument though, I was just messin' around about Warner's prices, hence the winky.

Yeah, I should have explained that I bought my copy from the Kaleidescape store, which is sometimes more expensive than the disks. Forgive me for missing that you were kidding. Sometimes I can be humor impaired and I guess this was one of those times.

Not to start a whole thing but why buy a download when it's more than a disc? Seems counter-intuitive. I thought you used that store when they had Atmos because it was cheaper.

I use the Kscape store because it is convenient and nearly instantaneous. The copies sold there are ordinarily but not always a bit more expensive than their disk based counterparts. Kscape is the functional equivalent of a turnkey ripping and storage service but includes UHD HDR disks, which so far can't be ripped by we mere mortals.

Definitely worth getting. It's a great upgrade that this masterpiece deserves.

I'd holding out on Unforgiven to go to $20 (or below), but the lossless audio on both the 4K and the remastered Blu (which the original Blu did not have) alone is worth it for me. One of the best films of the 90s.

How is HDR employed here? Specifically in comparison to other catalog titles on UHD BD?

Other than a couple of fleeting anomalies ("Shields up, Lieutenant Windmill!"), Ralph is mistaken. UNFORGIVEN looks great; however, it's not well-suited for low-end 4K sets. It's an excellent master requiring an excellent playback device.

Mathematically speaking, you do realize that a score of 80/100 is the exact same as 4/5, right?

Worth it. IMO, one of the better (maybe best to date) catalog titles to get the upgrade.

Do you maintain backups at all times or do you rely on consistent access to the store? Is there DRM? I am genuinely interested. I wrote-off ever going digital for movies because I assumed they would never be DRM free or disc quality.

It's mostly a very subtle use of HDR the same as Goodfellas, but you can tell there's a bit more depth to the contrast and whatnot. Some flames/lanterns can seem a bit bright amidst Eastwood's very dark interior shots.

The video and audio quality of movie files bought from the Kaleidescape store are bit for bit copies of the disk versions of the films, including UHD HDR TrueHD Atmos. Everything is copy protected, though, so the only backups available are on the Kscape servers.

Ah, bummer. I could never accept that. Glad you're happy though. Maybe one day there will be DRM free movies without discs but... probably not.

I like the convenience of the Kscape system but am the first to admit that it's far from perfect.
