Just speaking for me -- I'd watch it again tonight!

Here is the #1 factor for me in Replay Value: is the journey >>> destination??

With this -- Sure, I won't be as terrified on the second viewing b/c I'll know the outcome, but I'll still be terrified -- it puts you there with them, so I'll be reliving it again -- even if I know how it'll end up.

New School

Its a slasher movie and the new school does better at the slashing and jumping parts.
what? he wasn't a killer, he was
[Show spoiler]a pedophile.
that's why it was super stupid he had
[Show spoiler]the glove, because it made no sense for the character in the new film. in the original he made the glove for a reason. in the remake they give no logic behind it. and he wasn't a murderer, until he was in their dreams of course.

I 100% understand your position.

Here is mine -- I love to get all the goodies of being (virtually) put in a terrifying state of mind, without the drawbacks of actually being put there. This film made me feel like I was as terrified as being up that mountain and yet I didn't have to put my life on the line (or get freezy slush stuff in my booties) -- that's why I love it for me

i probably will never watch Frozen again simply because
[Show spoiler]it was so sad especially when the girl talks about how her dog is going to think she left her. for some reason that really got me and wrecked me and ruined my day

but Squid, it's not one of those, "so bad i couldn't watch this", it was - and you'll love this () - "this is too depressing for me to watch again".

Great minds think alike Like you I dove into the commentary on the end also...great insight as I was "WTF?" on that end shot too. How great was how he tied together
[Show spoiler]the water wheel as a cycle and that regardless of whether Enrique was in Guatemala or USA, he was still a slave to the working man -- showing the cycle of enslavement of his people. Awesome, just awesome! (the film, not the theme...theme is tragic but real)
Dude, hurry up. That flick drips with atmosphere. Plus its gnarly as hell.

Sin Nombre is a very good film. If you have Netflix, it's a Watch Instantly in HD, which looks fabulous btw. Sin Nombre, Revanche, Before the Rains and The Secret of the Grain are by far the best PQ streaming films I've seen on Netflix.

Hm, for me personally it would be like a 7/10, making it "quite tense." I would say it's more tense than most other horror films out there (since it takes a lot to make me feel tension), but I wouldn't call it perfect either (I think both "[REC]" films, "Silence of the Lambs," and "The Exorcist" top the tension scale for me).

Looks like most other folks have been thoroughly captivated by it, so you should feel the tension...

Whoops, I forgot to mention that it was rather bleak, especially as it got towards the end.

-this is great filmmaking!
-simple story (3 kids at a ski resort), simple setting (shot on location -- no fake sets used!! yes! that means the film crew lugged huge 40 foot flood lights up 8000 foot mountain!! through nasty freezing rain some days, through 34 inches of snow in 8 hours another day -- this was a shoot from hell but worth every penny!! Yes, I watched all 90 minutes of extras when the film ended and you should too!! this is as real as it gets!!...when you see actors in the cold shivering?? they're really shivering!! that ain't no white powder make up! they're really up that mountain in the dark and cold at 0 degrees F!!)
-(calming down) I actually knew I'd love this film 10 seconds into the film. Why? Within the first 10 seconds, a shot and sound effect is used that is (a) at the core of the film, (b) shouldn't be scary by itself, but (c) is already scary as hell even only 10 seconds in. I won't say what it was -- and don't spoil it those who have for those who haven't seen it yet -- but yes, 10 seconds in I thought "this is gonna be a great effin movie"
-A true "what would I do in this situation?" film. Your mind will race. The camera work is so intimate that you're not scared at the film, and not even scared at the characters, you're scared with the characters. In fact, you're in their hell.
-The extras are awesome. A few nuggets for those who've seen the film:
[Show spoiler]
-when Green was touring the Utah ski resort they used, and was going up the ski lift on a test run (to see what spot they'd stop it at and shoot at), he said "I didn't want to use a spot where it was EVEN PLAUSIBLE to jump..it had to a be a spot where you'd say 'NO F**KING WAY WILL I JUMP HERE'"...but here's the insane part...the lift gets to a perfect 50 foot drop, Green says to his buddy in the ski lift "this is the spot"...then suddenly...THE SKI LIFT STOPS! He had no radio. The ski lift operator had no idea they were at the right spot. It was stopped for weather reasons. Green freaked out, he said "we were there for 5 mins..it felt like 5 days" and "it was sooo freaky...it stopped RIGHT WHEN i said 'this is the spot'"
-when filming, they had to stop the ski lift car RIGHT AT THE SHOOTING SPOT where all the cameras were aligned. if they even went past it by 6 inches, the 3 actors would have to ride the car all around the mountain in the pitch black night again, which had 65 mph winds at the top!! and would go through hell just to get back to the shooting spot
-tons of other great stuff...check it out

PQ and AQ: 4/5 (great)
Didn't realize they went through so much trouble making the film!

On the next viewing, I might appreciate it more.

Great review!
