That post on the SH forum is claiming that the mono mix on the SF 4K is a stereo folddown. I don’t own the 4K disc, but this is the first time I’ve read that it’s not the original mono track.

Years ago when the 4K first came out, I did actually think the mono mix sounded funky compared to the mono mix on that disc in the Scream Factory boxed set; thought I detected some weird volume fluctuations that could've been the result of phasing due to a stereo fold-down... but when I went to A/B it back and forth -- pretty extensively -- with that boxed-set Blu, it sounded identical at every point. So I call BS on that post-er's claim. Or if not BS, then no detectable difference.

I hadn't detected any "sweetened" sound effects -- and I know the mono mix pretty darn well; it's the only one I ever listen to, and this is a Top Five all-time flick for me. It's just some of the weird volume fluctuations I thought had been exaggerated on the 4K (the music as young Michael comes out of the house to encounter his parents, Laurie crossing the street on her way to school); but my A/B'ing with the boxed-set disc years ago put my mind to rest.

Frankly I haven't ever made the choice between the two, because I always watch the 4K disc. I have created my own four-disc set featuring: the 4K disc, the Blu that came with the 4K, the boxed-set Blu, and the original Anchor Bay Blu I bought back in 2007 -- which, I've read, has a much higher bitrate than the recent versions of it. |

I used to read the Steve Hoffman boards heavily back in the day, there are two types of people there, people that actually know their **** front to back and you can 100% trust what you read from them msot of the time, and people that think they do. I have read the craziest things there like people that think bit identical albums on CD can sound different because of where they were pressed (US pressing vs. Japan pressing). There is literally no reasoning with someone like that they are gonna think what they think. But this Halloween thing is the first and only time I've read this, and Blu-ray.com of all places would have someone here for years fanning about how the 2014 Halloween Blu had the Criterion tier mono, so I don't believe it at all.
Whoever runs https://blah-ray.blogspot.com/search...n%20%281978%29 seems to really know their stuff and they say the 2014 disc has the same DVD mono that the 4k has, only the 4k version was transcoded which would introduce slight anomalies though not even close to audible imo. |

The 2007 Blu-Ray is still my “go-to” disc of the film. I’d love to upgrade it to 4K though, so please, UK labels, make it happen.

Is there anything better or unique about the 2007 Blu? I put it in once since it comes with the Shout 4k, and besides the trees looking a bit different on the street scenes it just looked like an old Blu ray.
