Maybe not SF, but I wouldn't be surprised another botique releases it at some point...perhaps even overseas. I still need to watch this in DV and see if I can come to terms well enough with the compression. It was a bit tough in HDR10.

Halloween has already been released twice on Ultra HD, and both completely different restorations afaik, there will definitely be a third somewhere. If Shout even just reencoded their current disc and sprung for Criterion's mono track it's definitive.

I'm really happy that for my goofy-ass setup of down-converting all my 4K discs to my ancient Panasonic 1080p SDR projector, my Oppo 203 does some kind of magic on the DV discs wherein it MUST be baking in the FEL to the outgoing 1080p signal. By the time it gets to my HD projector I don't see any of the terrible HDR10 encoding I'm seeing in screenshots -- including the infamous glitch on Halloween II that wins the all-time booby-prize for glitches.

To me, on my 55-nit 1080p SDR projector, this disc looks just about perfect.

(I agree about the mono track though; oof that's rough. But I'll still choose it over the remix, every time)

What if the Criterion LD track is similar to the Silence of the Lambs, where the Criterion is just artificially boosted and the Shout is more accurate?

Maybe?

Could be, but that Youtube comparison if accurate the Criterion sounded so much better on fidelity. Also wasn't the Shout mono just transcoded from their old disc? Seems sloppy either way. That bad BD audio blog made me a belieber.

The Shout audio is a lossy transcode of the 2000 Anchor Bay DVD track which is audibly heavily filtered and lacking in detail. It sounds like a different transfer altogether. It's not simply a matter of difference in EQ like Lambs, which was a flat transfer Criterion EQ'd for hotter bass without destroying dynamics. (that's why some still prefer it, it's not a mess outside of that) Arrow simply presented it with warmer EQ in regards to bass, again without ruining dynamics.

Criterion's LD audio was a fresh transfer of the original mag tracks. Whether or not they EQ'd it for hotter bass I can't say, but it definitely didn't ruin dynamics nor hit with filtration to the point it sounds so veiled.

A good question. I don't know if anyone here bought the 40th Anniversary soundtrack, but it was touted as being taken from the music stem of the 35mm mono track... and it sounds a lot like the SF disc.

Just throwing out there, but it's currently OOP in the UK since Lionsgate doesn't have the rights. I wouldn't be surprised if Arrow gets it there.

Optimized compression and improved, unfiltered mono would be the ultimate icing on the cake as the underlying master is great to me. I feel like the color, which varies so much on every release, was really nicely nailed down for the best ever.

"Wow dude...I heard you laughing at that abominable Scream Factory disc! I hear 'ya, I wouldn't get caught DEAD with one in my collection!" She cooed. She came 'round and took my hand in hers. "I'll do anything for you..." she whispered. The electronics department manager released a dove. It flew by us in slow motion. I sighed, retrieving a $750 pair of Gucci X RayBan RayBan sunglasses. "I'm sorry ma'am" I replied. The lady cocked her head. "As beautiful and radiant you are as an angel of the morning, I crave a more rough, forbidden love I can't find in the heart of a woman." Her lips pouted. A horse materialized beside me which I immediately straddled riding off past other customers and into the sunset and into the night in the arms of the man of my dreams, the perfect man, and a perfect movie collection.

We differ.
Probably best thing I’ve read on here since the infamous “we all got naked and jumped into the pool” post in the La Piscine thread. Still chuckle about that one.

Yes that was also my experience when I was using the Panasonis UB820 and an Epson projector. Of course now I have an actual 4K TV.......

If Arrow dropped Halloween it would be a dream, if Arrow dropped a franchise boxset and that was the only way to get the new disc my life would be a nightmare I'm never ditching my entire Shout run
