That's why I thought this was weird, because no one will end up paying $35.99 unless they haven't pre-ordered yet and the price goes back up to $35.99 and stays there. Every pre-order up to now is guaranteed to be billed $26.99 or lower.

Hopefully Kwaiden got enough votes to justify a release. But I put on the notes section I only wanted Kwaiden if it was the full release, not the prvious cut one so I'm hoping any delay on Kwaiden is to get that version.

I know it's not blu-ray news, but The Human Condition has been pushed to september

Thumbs up

They should start looking into remastering Armageddon and reformat it to blu-ray standards and release it via Criterion Edition

I know Michael Bay is very busy with Transformers, but to have an actual relase date for Armageddon will have fans like me drooling for that release day to come!!

I'm not going to get The Human Condition, but if Criterion keeps pushing back/canceling releases as they have been, then it would be courteous to send an e-mail alert. They should set up a listerv for that, like their newsletter.

Actually if you complain directly to Criterion they've been known to give gift cards to their store. I complained b/c they were so late in shipping Ben Buttons to me (I ordered direct from them), they gave me a $10 GC. I wasn't even angry about anything, I just wished they would have notified me of the problem.

Does Criterion still hold the license for The Killer.I have this on DVD and it would make a good blu release.

They probably did that because that situation directly affected you, not all the orders for a particular title...and even if I got a $10 gift card, it would simply match Amazon.com's pricing (usually) and then I'd have to pay shipping. Instead I just order both Blu-rays for a given month together in one shipment (except in rare cases when I REALLY want a title) and wait for them to come with free shipping (I had Prime, but it lapsed and I haven't re-activated yet...maybe for my birthday). I just find it odd that Criterion doesn't have a e-mail alert for delays and cancellations (come to think of it they could also do one for new additions each month) already, especially since they send alerts about a new-ish release or a major event connected to a Criterion title.

Back to regular DVD for a moment... just picked up "Friends of Eddie Coyle" and "The Hit" at Frys for 19.99 each. Beats Amazon by $5 a title...

Hate to be buying standard DVDs, but until Criterion releases all new titles on blu I guess it'll have to do...

Oh yeah I'm sure it was only a couple people who complained and got anything for it. BUt the fact that thy're own shipment did not make it to their warehouse is inexcusable and unfathomable in my mind. So that's why I emailed.
Oh, and really they're not too badly priced, usually $31 each, I order both in a month and score the free shipping. Plus they usually come aa couple days prior to release.
Also, that extra 10% via the $50 GC for every $500 you spend is a pretty nice bonus. If you factor that in, really it's like paying $28 each.

So I watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" today. Such a bad movie with poor acting and plot full of cliches. Visually impressive 'tho. Criterion should continue with classics and contemporary films that are worth something. I hope they're not going to make a mistake like this in the future. I hope...

Out of boredom, I did some quick math just for fun.

Criterion store

Quote:
$31.96 each ($32.00)

$64.00/month (with free shipping)

$768.00/year

-$50.00 gift card

$718.00/year
Amazon

Quote:
$27.99 each (average) ($28.00)

$56.00/month (with free shipping)

$672.00/year
BUT if we see the scary $35.99 ($36.00) for a title:

Quote:
$36.00 each

$72.00/month (with free shipping)

$864.00/year (YIKES AMAZON!)

Out of curiosity is that because it is not on blu-ray or you are just not interested in the title.

I must say it surprises me they don't release all new releases on BD. I mean they have done a high def master of them, why no put them on BD.

I got the Blu-ray of In The Realm of Senses and the DVD of the "companion" film Empire of passion. It's beyond me they didn't do both on BD and I would have much prefered Empire of Passion on BD over ITROS's.

It's because I can't justify $55.99 for a DVD set when I could put it towards an eventual Blu-ray, so basically it's because it's only on DVD.

That being said, if Criterion ever put out one of my favorite films ever in a definitive edition on DVD only, I would grab it, but it would have to be something that never got a decent release before.

You realize it was nominated for thirteen Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress right? It's a great film, watch it again.
