I've made it my life's mission to watch all Star Trek, except the animated Old Scientists and that kid's show, I guess.
I'm well on my way through Enterprise and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Otherwise, I'm one season behind on Discovery, which I will catch up on after Enterprise. |

Yeah, I would have loved seeing the Romulan war and the founding of the Federation. The fourth season should have been the first season since it had all the prequel stuff people actually wanted. Of course, that didn't happen because of a lot of the reasons that are explained on the Blus.

I loved all the Cardassian and Dominion stuff in DS9 best. That really was peak Trek for me.

Not to mention there was no internet as we know it at the time for the toxics of the time to vent to everyone. But here's an article about it (a little searching goes a long way, you might want to try it sometime): https://screenrant.com/tng-ripoff-ne...hows-fan-hate/ Not to mention there was a toxic fandom beginning and making Wil Wheaton's life a living hell, as they would later do to Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best. Denying the existence of toxic fans isn't going to help them. |

She’s always claimed she was miss-quoted.
However the hate was real, and even shared by some the original cast. George Takei would often openly criticise and mock TNG at conventions as that got lots of laughs and approval from the audiences…until he started to notice his mocking began to fall flat and wasn’t getting the same reactions. At which point he changed his tune. . Last edited by Josep5349; 10-25-2023 at 07:30 PM. |

You have to wonder if they even watched the show since they label Geordi as the "new Spock" when if anyone was supposed to be Spock on next Gen it was Data.
I remember watching the premiere when it was new. My Dad is a huge trek fan so he had showed me and my bothers classic Trek over the years prior to it, so it was a big event in our house. Never once did anybody in the house complain about it replacing the original show. The only time my Dad complained is when Yar died at the hands of the infamous oil monster. Now admittedly, besides Far Point the first season of TNG is painful to watch. TNG really didn't come into it's own until S3 ("Measure of a Man" and some others from S2 being exceptions) |

Nimoy always seems to have been a class act. I can't find anything negative said about later TREKs. |

Encounter at Farpoint has its cringe moments too, notably Yar's speech before Q tells her to STFU by freezing her. |

Just wasn’t feeling it Geoff. Didn’t connect with the crew at all. First time that happened since I got into Trek as a boy. I found them quite bland.

There were definitely some standout moments in season one though. As a fan of film noir, I always get a kick out of The Big Goodbye. The Neutral Zone was fairly decent as well. It's just that the lows, when they come, are REALLY low. Similar story for season two really. I was 11 when TNG started. We had no internet, and I had no idea there was any new Star Trek until we saw it on the shelves at the local video rental store. Hired Farpoint and wasn't overly enamoured with it. Probably took me a season or two to really get into it. A valuable lesson learned about not writing things off straight away if you don't like them, which benefited DS9 and B5 further down the line. Wasn't thrilled with their opening episodes either, but stuck with them and was amply rewarded each time. |
