Actually I picked it up yesterday :P (sorry couldn't resist).

Though I do have a point to make, which is that it played on my ps3 with no problems so the person worried about firmware updates should probably rest easy.

So is known whether BestBuy's 30% pre-order price is going to be the best yet?

Dont know why it got released here in Australia so much earlier than the US and UK....but I can tell you I watched it today and the quality is 5/5 for picture and 4/5 for Audio. 5/5 for extras too. The documentaries are quite interesting and are on topics I want to know more about. Some easy branching in the special features too which is seamless and no programming hiccups when activated. But dont get excited over the deleted scenes...I was hoping I'd see Klingon ships and we only get pre-viz. Oh, and Klingons dont look like you'd expect them too. But I wont spoil the suprise ;-)

what do you mean 4/5 for audio? what kind of speakers/receiver setup do you have? One of the biggest reasons why I want this Blu-Ray is for the sound

Personally I thought the core Dolby Digital track I heard was great. Replicated the mix exactly. Big boomy bass during the warps, surrounds full of like and excellent sound design by the father of modern sound design Ben Burtt.

If anything I'd give it 5/5 for audio and 4/5 for the picture. I don't know, I could swear at times certain shots appeared slightly out of focus, although it was quite possibly just my imagination.

The audio though, as far as I'm concerned, was magnificent.

i didnt notice anything like the out of focus maybe was ur imagination, unless u wanna give us a scene to look for... i reckon picture was excellent 5/5, audio was clean and clear, bass was good, in my opinion woulda been better with a DTS-HD track, i find the audio slightly better in DTS tracks.. so 4.5/5

oh and with region B being released b4 A, we are still waiting for transformers 2 we get it next week and u have had it for awhile now...

but star trek definately worth buying (even a blind buy).. now to figure out this holographic thing..

Indeed, it's a reference audio and video track. No sign of DNR or any other demon dequalitator of video did I notice. It's not quite at the same level as the Transformers 2 blu ray in terms of the wow factor in terms of PQ and AQ, but is no slouch either, detail is strong and apart from a few 'soft' shots that appear to be the camera slightly out of focus or other such 'issues' resulting from the source it is a 'perfect' transfer and I didn't notice any film damage or the like (on a 120" screen such as mine I find many films, both new and old have some, eg: Casino Royale has film damage present as does the Dark Knight and many other films that seem to have been given the okay as having no scratches/dirt etc present).

In case you where wondering dequalitator is a word, just look it up in your dictionary. :P

[edit: if anyone would like I could take and upload some pictures if anyone is interested]
