Yeah, that's how it was. But if this was the way the movie ended, wouldn't we all be sitting around, complaining that the movie had no real resolution?

Default The Dark Tower connection?

[Show spoiler] Is it me? Does this movie somehow connect with The Dark Tower? I mean I understand that the starting of the movie shows the painting of Roland and the Dark Tower but I felt that this story interacts just like The Stand or Salem’s Lot did. The spider like creatures reminded me of It. The fact that “other dimensions” was open made it seem (to me) as though this was part of The Dark Tower “folklore”. Not sure who spent all the time to read the Dark Tower series but I really felt that this is “another when and where” that seems to unite with The Dark Tower’s “universe”.

yes, since the budget was so low it made money (most horror flicks do),
but in this day and age most Hollywood sources call films "hits" that make over 100 milliion-- all I'm saying is that (in my opinion) the movie would have made a lot more money if they had stuck to Stephen King's original ending--
most people don't want to leave a theatre feeling like they should slit their
wrists!

I disagree! How many horror movies do over 100 million?? A movie is a success if it more than covers its budget which this movie did!! Also I heard nuthin but good things word of mouth so I guess it depends on where u live and who u are around!! I think it did what it was suppose to do! I dont think it wouldve made more money if a car full of people just drove off in the mist!!! Horror movies are not a big time money making genre although it should be cause thats the best genre!! Yeaaaaaaaaaaa!! Got Em!!

well I agree that horror flicks are the best genre CZAR (at least my favorite genre)

but I HATED the ending of THE MIST and there are several movies that I love that technically had downbeat endings (my avatar for instance)

I have NEVER seen a more depressing ending than THE MIST-- it really bothered me for days....

Interesting. I think it's awesome when a film lingers in my mind days past watching it, no matter what the feeling is. The Thing's ending was more ambiguous than The Mist, so it digests easier and doesn't necessarily end on a downbeat. Depends on the viewer's perception.

The Mist is clearly a downbeat, like a greek tragedy (ie. Hamlet). Blair Witch is another example of everyone dying in front of your face, definitely a downbeat.

I used to go to the MOMA in San Francisco and I remember this one exhibit from an artist that I simply despised the work. I walked out of the exhibit as I found it so revolting. Then it occurred to me, that even though I couldn't say I loved his work or even remotely liked it, I can say that it certainly had an impact on me, though not positive. That is great art. There is no denying the effect his art had.

I agree with your comments-- (great comparison to Shakespeare) -- there are just certain scenes in films that I can't "digest".... this was one of them. Another one that comes to mind is Willem Dafoes death scene in PLATOON.
Certain things effect people in different ways-- as a father of 2 young boys--
this movie had a very negative effect on me (even if it was well done...)

Wow really?? See ofcourse that ending hits u right when it happens but just the surprise and guts to have an ending like that made it a great film in my eyes! Yes I can think about the ending to this day and be like (wow that was fu'd up) but I will then say after that.......brilliant as a movie watcher!! Not your typical ending and it made watching a movie more exciting and not knowing what to expect! I wish more movies would do the unexpected!! Got Em!!

I completely understand. I especially have a hard time dealing with the death of children in movies, especially The Mist. It lingered with me as well for days after in so many different ways. I often wonder if I could ever do that. Hard to say.

Another film that left me miserable and sad for days after watching it was, Kids (1995). Actually miserable may be too weak a word, I think I was depressed for a couple days.

Holy Sh!t - Kids (1995) gave me nightmares for days and thanks to you, now I won't be able to sleep at tonight!

As I posted before, after much contemplation (as a father myself), I came to the conclusion that in the Mist the father was truly a hero for what he did.

I loved the ending. I thought they were going to play it safe for a while and let everyone live. Really glad they took a chance. I hate being protected from controversy, thought provoking, or things that might question morality.

Safe=boring.
