The actor who plays "Kane" is so chilling though it almost warrants an extra star from me.

Part 3 isn't much better but it seems comfortable in being just a "creepy ghost story." The visuals are fun and imaginative and the actors have good chemistry and are generally engaging. The abrupt ending (due to O'Rourke's untimely death) hurts the film the most but I find it more rewatchable than the second film because instead of trying to redo part 1 (which is impossible) it goes in a different direction with the material. Neither sequel is particularly good but they make for an amusing night of "horror."

As far as I know the remake is still in script stages (Oct/Nov 2011 is the time-frame they hope to get it out by) and an early script review leaked that it's fairly similar to the first film in structure except many of the characters have different names.

I doubt we'll see 2/3 hit BD anytime soon in the US just because they may be in MGM's hands as far as I know and they're having all kinds of issues. Then again, they may be part of the bunch that FOX has rights to now (Carrie, for example) so maybe they do in fact retain the US rights for the sequels.

I believe MGM was/is developing the remake up until this point but no clue if it's still moving ahead considering they even put off the latest 007 movie... which is likely a much bigger priority.

heather's death didn't affect the ending at all as the movie had been completed. The filming was completed in June 1987 and she died February 1988.

She died after principal photography on the film had been completed. However the studio requested a new ending to the film after it had entered post production -- and her death happened before that could be filmed. The ending as it appears in the completed film was the "reshot" ending and a stunt double plays her -- which explains why her face is not visible in the "group" shot just before the credits roll.

I hate digibooks, so I bought mine from Walmart last week. Digibooks are ugly and overrated, IMO.

Anyone have the UPC for the non-digibook version? I was trying to find it at Walmart but they only list the Digibook version. Same goes with Amazon.

I never had an issue with removing the paper from the back without damaging the digibook cover.

I didn't damage it, fortunately, since I took great care although one spot did bubble. Just not a smart idea in my opinion.

Are you talking about the paper card that is soft glued to the back cover of the digibook? I beileve that is meant to be removed. I remove them and place them inside. It is placed there to show you what the package contains when it is shrinked wrap in the store.

Yup, I just throw those away. Those glue balls on the back pull the printed paper away from the cardboard on the DigiBook cover if you're not careful. There's no bubbling on the back cover of your DigiBook? Mine was really stuck on there.

I have only had 1 or 2 small glue areas at most that were used to attach the paper to the cover. When I removed the paper if the glue stays attached to the the cover I just roll the glue off with my finger. I don't pick at it. Last digibook I bought, Dr. Zhivago even had an Audio CD glued to the back cover.

OK, the guy with the glue gun must've been pissed off at his girlfriend with the one I bought

Too bad about the crap extras. A documentary about "real poltergeists" is moronic.

Every time this movie comes out on a new format I am disappointed we don't get some real extras. The only exception was a brief 10-minute special effects feature on the old laserdisc box set, which was good but I would like a full-length documentary and/or a commentary!

But every time, us fans are let down by the egos of Spielberg and Hooper, or whatever crap prevents the studio from giving us something substantial.

Not to mention on DVD it had the trailer at least... the new edition put out dropped that. Which is annoying cause it's a creepy trailer.

Still the A/V quality is stunning which is more than worth the cost of upgrading. Digibook version in my collection.

I LOVE my digibook, but I HATE that it doesn't fit nicely next to the other blurays. I store all my digibooks together on one end of my shelf, THEN start the regular cases in ABC order.

So I have Poltergiest on one end and Poltergeist 2 on the other end in proper order.

I'm thinking about picking-up POLTERGEIST (keep case) this week. However, we have the 30th Anniversary coming up next year. If you guys were to gamble, u think there's any chance we get a 30th Anniversary edition next year with extras? I remember that 10 min behind-the-scenes that was on the laserdisc. I actually thought it was longer than that. Saw it years ago. Oh well, I think I might gamble and pick up the keep case version.

Pick the keep case version, I doubt there will be a re-release 30th Anniversity edition, even with the lack of extras, the picture quality and sound makes up for it
