Glad to see this is the original Jaws 3D being released in stereo 3D, instead of anaglyph as most theaters had back then. Never in the 80's did I even see an ad or theater for stereo 3D. Even back in the day, Spy Kids 3D was using anaglyph at the local Cinemark theater.

I hope Jaws 3D is reasonably priced at $22.99 or less.

Jaws 3D was not released as anaglyph back in the 80's - it was polarized, just like Real-D cinemas use now. The vast majority of 3D films from the 80's were polarized. Same goes for the 3D films of the 50's too.

Actually, the 3D in Jaws 3D was quite good - the special effects and blue screen work were quite terrible, but the 3D was decent, with many gimmicky 3D pop-out scenes, and great overall depth. It was quite a surprise to hear Jaws 3D is coming to Blu-Ray in proper stereoscopic 3D, and I can't wait. Bad movie, but still lots of fun.

The film may have been released in a polarized form but it was definitely shown in anaglyph in some cinemas. How do I know? Because back in 83' I saw it in anaglyph in my local cinema. The red/cyan glasses were handed out as we went in...I remember it like it was yesterday. I also remember that in 3D anaglyph, it sucked big time. I had heard rumours of this 3D movie where you felt like you were in the film and things popped out. I went along to watch it with great anticipation and with my imagination running overtime but spent most of the film trying to focus my eyes on the blurry images. It was the first time I'd experienced wearing anaglyph glasses and I really struggled to focus on the 3D with them. So, back in 83', for me, my first 3D viewing experience was a huge fail, especially as I wanted it to be great. 30 years later and 3D is starting to do what I hoped it would back then, but even today there are some huge problems and fails with it....high prices, shallow 3D, poor conversions etc etc.

Incidentally, I've since seen a 3D field sequential version of Jaws 3 and the 3D is excellent with a consistent depth throughout. I'll certainly be buying a Blu-ray 3D release of this once the price is right. If I watched the movie in 2D then it is a bit "meh" with poor special effects, but in 3D, its pretty good fun.

I saw this in the cinema too and clearly remember the polarized glasses handed out .. not anaglyph. Sounds like it was hit and miss as to which version you got depending on the cinema showing it. I thought it had lovely 3D pop.

It depended on the screen:
Polarized needed a special reflective overlay for the screen, so it could only be shown if the movie was going to stay in that theater for a week without being interrupted by other movies...Which, back in '83, they could.
Anaglyph could be shown on any screen, if your theater switched their titles around, or for some overseas markets where they couldn't do anything as fancy.
And drive-in theaters just had to show the 2-D version.

And the rumors of polarized pop-out in '83? Absolutely untrue.
Never saw it once. (Except for the ping-pong ball in House of Wax, that sort of came close.)

I saw Jaws 3D and Friday the 13th 3D in the theater with polarized glasses in the 80s. Both movies had awesome pop-out effects.

Back in those days, it depended on where you were sitting in the theater--
If you weren't dead center, any gun that stuck out of the screen was usually two guns.

Not really. I caught Jaws 3D and Friday the 13th Part 3 at a revival festival about ten years ago. At both screenings I was not able to get seats dead center, and each time the 3D was gorgeous and the pop-outs were quite impressive (especially the floating arm in Jaws 3D).

Still no pre-order means it isn't happening (least not now).

I always thought it was an odd release. There are next to no 3-D "catalog movies" available and if anything made sense, it was Universal releasing the far more popular JAWS 2 on Blu-Ray.

Hopefully I'll be wrong but I still think this was wishful thinking on the part of whoever "leaked" the "list."

I would have thought they may have released the likes of Friday 3 and Jaws 3 at the same time ... like they did with their recent anniversary releases.

I too am beginning to think that this is all turning out to be a dream.

Is it true that the shark in Jaws is going to be CG? I recently heard this from two friends.

No. If you look at the restoration demo Universal has on their YouTube page, you can see they left the shark as-is. Didn't even remove the visible rod when it jumps up onto the ship.

I remember that. I found a VHS copy of the 007 movie "A View to a Kill" when it first came out for GBP 26.99 (about $40 U.S.) and thinking I had found a real bargain. Being a huge James Bond fan I jumped on it.

I also recall that a big draw for DVD was that they were sold to the general public on release day. One time I accidentally clicked on the VHS Amazon page for "Mission to Mars" and saw it for $120 while the DVD was available for $19.99.

I hope I get to see "Jaws 3" in 3D. I missed out at the movie theater. We thought we were going to see the movie in 3D and wondered why we had not been handed glasses when we entered the cinema. When it started we realized we were actually getting the 2D version.

There's not one retailer that has it listed. Obviously, if it is coming, it's not coming in August...if at all.
