Arrow is really crapping all over Twilight Time with consistently superior releases. I just thought that as this time they (TT) are doing the second release that they might top the Arrow edition for once...

I borrowed copy of the Twilight Time release at a library (amazed they had a TT title... only a matter of time till some collector snob swipes it and marks it up on the bay). IMO, the extras are decent but the encoding is very mediocre (some macroblocking) even considering the source used. Shocked that people don't say anytihng about TTs encoding given the 3000 limited BS model they do, yet you guys say Shout! is bad but at least they try with extras and don't endorse greedy scalpers with a limited run thing on most titles.

The Arrow seems like the better one to get if you are able to get a region free player. Its only $14 and if anything it has to have at least a better encode than the $50+ the re sellers are gouging. Wished they picked this up for the US, but you can't have everything in life so put up with things even if its shippy.

Though this is a case, as with Terence Fisher's Dracula, where rumours have persisted that some overseas cinema versions of the film may have included at least some of the footage cut by the BBFC.

For what it's worth, the cuts are mentioned in some detail in the Arrow disc's commentary track too.
The Japanese version of the 1958 Dracula was confirmed to contain material missing from the UK cut when a few reels of it were found about 10 years ago. Was this censored material or just extended/additional scenes?

It was censored material. Mainly it shows a significantly more intense and graphic death scene for Dracula.

Also different (more overtly sexual by 1950s standards) shots in the seduction of Mina that the BBFC got hot under the collar about.

So, anyone know if this Arrow version work on North American players? Like a ps3 and ps4? It seems to be a better version than the twilight one and much cheaper. Thanks!

It is region locked. It will not work on a PS3/PS4.

Darn, thanks. It bugs me because the Twilight version is so expensive here in Canada. There is no way to get it under 50 bucks. Its insane. God I hate Twilight time...

If prices are a bit steep it may work out cheaper in the long run to get a multi region player if you fancy importing regularly

Does anyone else who owns the Arrow edition notice a very pronounced sibilance in the dialogue? I watched it last night and became acutely aware of it particularly towards the end of the film, every time an actor (especially Cushing) pronounced an "s" it became almost painful..! I hadn't noticed it before for some reason but maybe I was paying more attention last night. I would be grateful to hear from anyone else hearing this issue or maybe I have a duff copy..? Thankyou

Take what I have to say with a grain of salt because my hearing isn't perfect, but I didn't really notice anything out of the ordinary while watching this last night.

Any word if a remastered version of this will be coming? I suspect if so, Arrow might try to acquire it for the US since TT's licence is up and OOP.

I also ask Kino on Twitter if they would release The Hound of the Baskervilles on Blu-ray, and they never said anything back to me. They normally reply to people if they have no plans for it.
