Secondly, that version has a DRM which requires you to acquire a playback license from Microsoft (the licence is free). But from what I heard the server where you can acquire this license has been down for a while. So even if you want to watch it on your PC, you can't. At least, this part I'm not sure of.

Lionsgate may release this Ultimate Edition version on BD since it reportedly has a better transfer than the one currently on BD. It's cleaner with broader color range.

Thanks a bunch for the heads up. I dunno how I feel about getting the Ultimate Edition though, since the theatrical is in my opinion much better paced. Though I like the scene with Michael Biehn, I feel the movie benefits from his absence. The chip flipping and extra stuff with Miles was unneccesary. If the Lionsgate one will have a Theatrical with a better transfer, I'm there. It might have to be a double dip because the T2 Xtreme DVD does not come with the theatrical, which is what I want.

On another note, Kingdom of Heaven and Lord of War look fantastic playing on the PS3 in 1080p. During one of the scenes, I noticied snow in the air and in the actors hair, which I had never seen before. Lord of War was great as well, it was nice to see the OAR returned unlike the garbage "Formatted for 16x9" DVD release. The colors are so much more vibrant in Blu-Ray too, it's almost like watching a different movie.

If you have a Gmail account, go enable your Google Checkout account. Current promotion is buy US$30 pay US$20, or buy $50 pay US$30. So if you mix and match right (three titles at most) you can get a big discount. Then order again!

Default UltimateAV: PlayStation3 Blu-ray Disc Player

While enduring the endless negativity campaign that will undoubtedly haunt this machine till the end of it's days, it's refreshing to read a thorough, bullshit-free review.

The PS3 performs like hell and is one of the best deals going. Not that I'd kill or injure someone over one, mind you, but I'm not sure I'd judge anyone who does too harshly after living with it. My thumb's way up on this one- PS3 rocks!

Default Does not restart from point it stopped after restarting PS3

Just hooked up my PS3 a couple of days ago. After a few problems that came down to a bad HDMI Switch I finally got it hooked up and playing 1080i.

I haven't had much time to try anything out yet but I did play the TN movie that came with the PS3. I did notice a problem that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere yet:

If I stop the movie part way through and turn off the PS3 and restart the PS3 later the movie does not restart from where I stopped it but restarts at the beginning. Does anyone know if this is: 1) a known problem or a defect of my machine? 2) can this be fixed by a future patch?

Sorry, didn't know consoles were like that. This is the first one I've owned (I've been a PC guy 'till now)... just thought it would be like my DVD player when playing disks.

Guess I'll just have to leave the little beast running -- at least it's dead silent.

Thanks for the info.

My kids opened their new PS3 today, this thing is a blast. We have not had a chance to use it for bluray yet but soon will (tomorrow). If its as good with movies as it is with games then this will be lots of fun!

I think you have to stop it by pressing stop or going to the XMB, then turn it off. Upon booting up, you can resume from where you left off.

If you turn it off in the middle of a movie, it won't resume.

We played "A Christmas Story" today without a hitch. Showed the codec as VC-1 and the picture was pretty darn good on our 32" HDTV CRT Display. Tomorrow night we will give it a work out in the theater on the Ruby.

Default bitrate vs linear

Much earlier in the thread there was a mention of if you have a audio receiver capable DTS or digital decoding to make sure the audio output is bitrate ---- my issue is that it keeps cutting in and out. I have a sony receiver which does great with HD TV programming for awesome Dolby Digital 5.1 When I play a BD with PS3 it is choppy and constantly cutting in and out..... any ideas or suggestions ?

Just got my first look at Resistance FOM on my Panny 50" plasma.

I'm getting letterbox bars at the top and bottom of the screen; I thought this odd considering the game was written for 16:9 ratio screens, correct? After all, this is no movie.

Is this the norm for anyone here that has played the game?

And, by the way, if anyone has any questions pertaining to the performance, features, games, etc. just let me know. I'll be happy to answer any that I can

We managed to pickup another PS3 (this one is a 60gb model) today, so now my son's have one to play in the family room and one will be going into the theater for our dedicated blu-ray player.

Quick question, I want to get a remote to work with the bluetooth PS3. Is there a remote that works in both the bluetooth realm and the IR realm? This would simplify things for us greatly.

Thanks!

Did you adjust the display settings on your PS3? If not, then that may be why.

I picked up a PS3 the week before Christmas. Have had it in my system for a few weeks and I am loving it. Hooking it up to my network wirelessly was easy as well, online gaming is pretty cool especially Resistance. Just picked up the remote for it, set up was a snap for that too.
Hooked up HDMI to my Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector w/ 100" screen.
Blu-ray movies:

SAHARA
ICE AGE:The Meltdown
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Call of Duty 3

Cool! If your Sanyo's 2:1 zoom/distance allows it, maybe you could have a 2.40 wide 120" 22:9 screen filling the width of your wall for when you watch Scope movies like KOH or League!
