I agree with that one. Tangerine Dream has done some really good soundtracks in their day. Their soundtrack to Flashpoint is always good listening. Other good ones were Firestarter, Sorcerer, Wavelength, Legend and The Keep.

Hmmmmm

Since i don't normally pay much attention to the music guess i'm gonna have to listen a lot more closely.

Off the top of my head a couple that stand out are Lord of the rings, Diamonds are forever and Platoon.

This may sound like an odd score to recommend, but if you can tack it down, get the CD soundtrack to "Jaws 2" by John Williams. I think the score is much more fully realized than in the first film.

Also worth getting is the 2CD soundtrack for ALIEN, considering how little of Goldsmith's score actually is in the film.

Biggest disappointment of the year is the 3-CD Bladerunner "soundtrack". It still has all the stupid movie dialog and sound effects intruding into the music, and still manages (even on 3 CDs) to leave out "Memories of Green" by Vangelis. The 3rd CD is full of non-Bladerunner music and makes the set a complete waste of money.

Other scores I love (i no particular order):
The Stand (TV Miniseries) - Snuffy Walden
Dead Again - Patrick Doyle
For a Few Dollars More - Ennio Morricone
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Ennio Morricone
Tenebre - Goblin
Thunderball - John Barry
On Her Majesty's Secret Service - John Barry
Total Recall - Jerry Goldsmith
Logan's Run - Jerry Goldsmith
The Rocketeer - James Horner
Hoffa - David Newman (this score may be in more movie trailers than any other score in history, including Horner's Aliens)

Actually, I agree with that. I've always enjoyed the opening to the movie when the divers are exploring the Orca. Nice use of the harp there. The rest of the score is well done too. Sadly, the movie is not that great, but it was shown in HD a couple weeks back and it looked really good.

As for the Blade Runner score, I was really disappointed with that myself. I haven't gotten the Alien score on disk yet, but I'm working on it. I always liked that one. Goldmsith rarely misses on soundtracks. His First Contact and Mummy soundtracks showed he was still on top of his game.

Yeah, I think they did the soundtrack to that 80s vampire flick; Near Dark as well. Great stuff!

I'm about the biggest Halloween fan I know, but I didn't watch Part III for the first time until this year (and I saw part II at the drive-in, just to give you an idea on age). I was delighted to discover a Carpenter/Howarth score I'd never before heard. In fact, Tommy Lee Wallace creates such a Carpenter-looking flick, you almost feel like he could ghost-direct for John. Although maybe it's just because Cundey is once again in charge of the lighting.

But a good score and competent directing just can't save this craptastic film from itself.

Yeah, this is one of the guilty pleasures I watch around Halloween. I'm probably one of the few people that like it. The score is great though, and anyone interested, can contact Alan Howarth at alanhowarth.com and he'll sell you a copy for $25 autographed and everything. He even answers his own phone.

One thing to note though, these are not the original releases, these are copies that he produced from the master tapes. If you want a 2 disk version, it sells for $19.95 at Buysoundtrax.com and has previously unreleased material.

Star Wars always has been my favourite amazing score but both Batman ('89 version, Begins and TDK) and the Spider-mans have excellent scores as well.

Jerry Goldsmith's score for "Legend" is far far superior to TD's.

Near Dark kicks the living life out of The Lost Boys. The Lost Boys is for jerks who don't know about Near Dark. I like Near Dark more than The Lost Boys. Bill Paxton plays such a good redneck vampire that Garth Ennis ripped him off. Plus, the guy from Heroes is in it. I know everybody likes 24, but Nathan Patrelli has more superpowers than Jack Bauer. The Lost Boys is like Bordello of Blood compared to Near Dark . . . and I'm comparing them . . . I just did.

Do something.

I also like John Williams, though, because he invented the 12 key piano that only has white keys.
