It's the same source as the 3D master. The cropping/framing is almost the same.
JP3D_No Turkey.jpg So, it's safe to assume that the dinosaur heads will be cropped out in this version as well, just like in the 3D one. ![]() |

For Close Ups it's not unheard of for foreheads to get cropped out. In framing a composition, the eyes and where they are in the shot, are more important. |

The cropping in JP3D is despicable, especially in the Brachiosaur scene -
JP3D Brachi crop 1.jpg JP3D Brachi crop 2.jpg JP3D Brachi crop 3.jpg JP3D Rex head crop 1.jpg JP3D Rex head crop 2.jpg The original 35mm framing wasn't shifted to the bottom part of the frame like the 3D one. There was enough headroom at the top to include the heads of the dinosaurs, and less at the bottom. Also, I'm a photographer and made one documentary short (I've shot it myself). The basic rule about composition is that you ALWAYS keep your subject within the frame, unless you are going for some odd/artsy framing. JP is not that kind of a movie. I was part of a cinematography course and our teacher/DoP told us to NOT CROP THE HEAD out. If you look at the Brachio shot, the frame is calling our attention to the unusual subject (Hello, Dinosaur!). But when we look at the character, the head is cut out? No, that cannot be by design! It was an error made during the 3D conversion. Our eyes would always scan the frame for the head and eyes of the dinosaur because that is the part which is engaged in an activity. The 35mm prints were 4-perf full frame. Only the CG shots were matted, but to a ratio that was closer to 1.72:1. EDIT: The 4K source (from the screenshots in the previous page) appears to be wider than the 3D version in the CG shots. So, the cropping will hopefully be less of an issue this time. Yeah, hopefully that isnt the case this time. Universal messed up the first DVD widescreen release of BTTF 2 and 3. They had to redo them and offer replacements, but only because Bob Gale got wind of the problem.
I wonder if Spielberg cares enough. |

Ok, still cropped as hell like the BD and BD 3D versions...
Why? They said the 3D release needed those crop because of the rotoscoping, but this? Why haven't they used at least this framing? ![]() ![]() It's not the 3D version master as someone confirmed to be present things previously erased in the 3D version, other than a different grading, but this is just wrong.. ![]() |

This frame is wider than the corrisponding frame of the 3D version though.
![]() It's not going to be as perfect as the original film AR wise (and this means no banner touching the ground in the ending, no T-rex head when she smashes the fences, etc. etc.), but let's wait for more screens. This should be still a huge improvement over the BD. |

They are not doing separate masters for the itunes. It's the same as the UHD, with HDR. Only the video compression and quality will vary.

That’s strange my copy doesn’t appear THAT warm ... as I’ve said on the lower last page this new master is definitely warmer but not to that extent of the 3D version or the on-screen ZHobbs provides ... then again it’s probably because it’s not a direct screen grab. But thanks Zhobbs for sharing those!
In fact I’m beginning to notice a slight hint of magneta during the Tricera poop scene. But don’t me wrong this grading so far is way better than the 2011 BD. If anything it’s safe to say the magneta purpleish hues have been greatly reduced or removed. Part of me kind of wishes they would remove the stage light and wires and other goofs like the 3D version removed. Guess those modifications are only done for the 3D version. Quote:
I find it weird to no press release has yet to be released at all. Last edited by I-C-Blue; 04-12-2018 at 06:45 PM. |

Noooooo. Watching the 2D video stream of the 3D release looked ATROCIOUS. Everything DNR'd to maximum waxiness and orange blasted. I hope Spielberg gets wind of this and demands a re-scan. All of his stuff released by Paramount had awesome transfers.

![]() So the copy you are watching have a slight magenta push, grain visible from a phone, and none of the edits of the 3D version? Are you 100% sure it's not the old Master? |
