Surprisingly I was able to pick up a steelbook at Best Buy three hours after they opened.

I picked up the Steelbook from BB at 4pm today. I pre-ordered it too but it's showing a 10/25 delivery

Anyone else feel like the HDR makes the picture look a little washed out?

Not going to buy the disc for this but does anyone know for sure if this new transfer is going to be on digital providers? I know it has a code but it hasn’t been upgraded anywhere. (Vudu has 4K but it’s the old SDR version from the FandangoNow merge).

It looks like Vudu is establishing a new entry for the movie, one that likely will correspond to the HDR version. But it's not in place yet, as you note, the only one still there is the previous SDR version.

AppleTV/iTunes not yet, but probably the same case, the newer version will be added, all services might be waiting on a new version to upload into their system. MA itself, I'm not sure what version they have, whether it's with or without HDR.

My copy came in today and from what I've seen so far, it looks miles better than the Blu-ray.

I want to preface this by saying that I was a subscriber to FaH, but I certainly didn't take his word as the end all, be all. Lately, I've been questioning how much I've been getting out of his videos. After watching his review on this and noticing how little he really knows about filmmaking or film in general, along with his ignorant comments about his setup, I'm done. Unsubscribed. No more.

Anyways, this disc looks great.

My local Best Buy still has a rather large UHD section.

This is totally forum elitism but this user has 7 posts, 6 of which are within the last year and their account is older than mine. I have 7 posts on PQ and HDR topics within the last fortnight.

This is the first time they've said anything about a 4K disc's actual image...

That's instantly for me a do not listen to assessment of this individual

Man, it’s crazy how I’m watching some of the regular out-and-about Youtubers and a good amount are saying they’re not picking up this release cause they “heard the transfer was bad”. Screw that FAH guy.

If anyone is wondering why the HDR makes the picture washed out, that's because they used an old master instead of going back to the original 35mm print.
You guys were just sold a 4k that was remastered from a worse transfer of the original 35mm.

Do it yourself then. Fund it, work on it, bring it to us so we can complain nonstop about how you didn't do enough.

Please.

I'm excited to get it tomorrow and if it's an adequate 4k then it might as well be golden. Try caring about the movie.
Don't make me find someone who has the 35mm on a site like the Original Trilogy forums, donate to someone who has it to get it scanned, and never release it for anyone else due to copyright. I've done it before, and won't be afraid to do it again.

You know that the 35mm prints for IB were printed FROM the 2K digital master the UHD uses as its basis...right?
