Well if you have blackout curtains then there's nothing wrong with watching movies during the day. It's just that many people* have gone the route of turning a family room or living room into a partial home theater--rooms built with native lighting conditions which are often far from optimal for movie viewing in daytime. Personally, both of the home theater environments I have access to are in dark, windowless basement rooms, so I have the advantage of optimum conditions at any hour of the day.

*I'm not automatically implying anyone here, but you do see it a lot out there.

I need some blackout curtains. Sometimes when I decide to watch a movie during the day, I get on my stepladder and I hang a thick fleece blanket over my curtain rods to block out all light.

My wife won't go for blackout curtains in the living room, so basically I just watch movies at night.

I think my biggest problem with Godzilla was that it was popcorn fun trapped in a serious drama's body so it ended up being not that great at either - a weak drama that's a little too serious to just be fun (a few great moments aside). I thought it was OK, and I'm happy for anyone that LOVED it, but to anyone who hasn't seen it, you should probably treat that 4.5 movie rating as being very YMMV.

Sadly, the movie does seem to come overly dark in it's final form compared to what was shown before. the screens of digitalHD's from around the web and even the screens provided by the review on this site keeps proving that this home release is very murky in a bad way. i already wrote a much more detailed post here (with links) to show it, but sadly i got this window that says my comment is awaiting approval from a moderator because i just signed up. can someone here tell me if any moderators bother to check these posts or my post is gone forever and i need to find a different way to deliver my message?

(Underworld54 check your PM box please)

Don't want to beat a dead horse but yeah, looking at the caps on this sight and other sites, my mind is not put at ease, the movie looks way darker than I remember in the theater. The shot of godzilla roaring looks horrid. I'll wait to see at home before I pass judgement.

Yes, having watched the disc twice, the transfer is incredibly dark and the color comes in considerably less saturated than it did in the theater. For you projector people, good portions of the film will be difficult to watch. Even with it's wonderfully boasting audio track, it's a disappointing release.

Why do the official reviewers of this site always fail to recognize or note dark transfers? From Thor 2 to Iron Man 3 and now Godzilla, the reviewers always fail to either notice or mention when a movie is criminally dark. It's shocking, especially assuming they have calibrated displays.

It's too hard to block out light at my place during the day, there is always sources of light that interfere.

That's darker than most of AvP-R.
You're doing comparisons to what's obviously a CAM bootleg rip. Look at the beginning how the image is completely off centered and there appears to be something in front of the image, in that case theater seats!

And I remember that scene in particular not being as dark in theaters.

That's very concerning. reviewers should be harsh and relentless. they need to be the sane voice who keeps it real. they have the power to make a change.

You're wrong. unfortunately that's NOT a "CAM bootleg rip". that's how this moment is originally framed. it supposed to look like they shot this moment through a real office window. a lot of the action in the final act is shot through broken glass and stuff.

Legendary owns both characters... I think it's going to happen.

Please let it happen.

The only obstacle I see is Warner vs. Universal. While Legendary is doing both movies, I'm not sure they "own" the characters. I think Godzilla is with WB for at least the foreseeable future.

I don't blame her, I wouldn't either! She doesn't want the living room to look like a mortuary. Put up blackout curtains, then all you'll need is a casket, and a body.
