where in the hell you got the 43% in favor of HDDVD?[/QUOTE]

Could be he hit the 2 button when he meant to hit the 5 button? 43 vs 57 would add up to 100 at least

Otherwise the math would be somewhat lacking...

Come on, Don Lindich, a ***** for HD-DVD.

All surveys and polls, what are the variables and how scientific was this poll? I could get a favarable response to anything if I skew the variables my way. Edit: Initially thought sound advice did the poll. Still the numbers of software sold trumps the (Lies, damned lies) survey of The Diffusion Group

What I find really funny, is it's been about a week since that guy's comment about WB rumor, and WB still hasn't commented on it lolz.

Hi, I am new to this forum, and I have some questions, about this Warner thing. Just as background I am currently a HD DVD supporter but I am going to buy a Blu-Ray player. I am waiting for Warner to tell us what we already know that they are going Blu. can anyone explain to me Profil 1.1 and 2.0 and if I buy a player that is not 1.1 or 2.0 can I update the player or should I buy a PS3 or wait for a 2.0 player? I dont want to buy a player only to have to buy another and hear my wife wine to me for like ever. thanks.

I am also a new Blu Ray owner and cannot reccommend the PS3 enough!

The load times on it are extreamly fast, its plays discs flawlessly, and aside from the outter physical appearence, it acts like a real standalone.

Hey WELCOME!

The PS3 is prob your best bet for a full 2.0 profile.
Since it includes built in WiFi connectivity.
And 1.1 FW update will be available this month.

and ohh yeah, you can play games, online gaming, music,
photos, and surf the internet too.

I agree. Right now there are no responses from WB!
Usually they shoot down these rumors the next day, but it has been a few days now without a peep.
Makes you wonder if perhaps there is something more to this rumor than just speculation. Especially if PM says what he did, and if it comes from the VP of Lionsgate.
Plus all the press talking about how it is the smart choice and the way it will turn out.
It is a no brainer, but then again Paramount pulled one on us and that leaves us on the edge of our seats.

This is worse than a soap opera!

I'd definitely recommend the PS3 as a Blu-ray player. It's the fastest loading player on the market, it's fully compatible with profile 2.0, and it plays games as well if you ever have the desire.

As for stand-alone players, the new Panasonic player (BD30) is fully 1.1 compliant, but will not be 2.0 compliant. 2.0 is BD-Live internet connectivity which may or may not appeal to you.

There's no way we're hearing a peep from Warner before CES. Of course they aren't going to sabotage their own holiday sales where they can milk both sides until when/if something changes.

January 7 isn't that far away, really.

i want to believe if you are a Blu owner or not,,this is what you conclude on the PS3 ....PS3 is a beast machine first and secondly plays your BD without any single hiccup or freeze or whatever can exist around you.this is only my experience so far

Good point. If WB gave any inclination as to which side they might pick, that would kill holiday sales of the "other" format. Of course, it might also spike sales of "the" format.

Personally... I'm not going to let this perk my enthusiasm until *after* an official announcement is made. Anything can happen. Remember how that Paramount annoucement blind-sided us all.

The short answer is that profile 1.1 adds Picture-in-Picture support, I think discs are supposed to be designed so that if you have a 1.0 player, you can still watch the movie or the video commentary, but not at the same time. Profile 2.0 adds Internet access and a requirement that the player have 1 GB of storage for downloading new content. Pretty sure that's it.

If you can update the player to 1.1 or 2.0 depends on the player, the PS3 is the safe bet in that, and a lot of other regards.

If they make the announcement at CES the result is just going to be returns. That hoses Toshiba more than WB though, b/c most places let you return opened dvd players but not opened movies.

This week is Warner's biggest HDM week of the year for both formats. If I were an executive for Warner, would I:
1) Confirm the rumors and state we are going Blu exclusive and thwart sales for Harry Potter on HD-DVD.
2) Wait until after Harry Potter week or until Q1 2008 after HD-DVD has comfortably sold as much as possible for the year.

As a money making company, in all honesty what would you do? They are simply making a smart business decision to withhold comment. Notice they haven't dispelled the rumors, either? Smart business, nothing more, nothing less.

Usually if a rumor like this surfaces, they shoot it down saying they are "staying neutral" or "have no plans to go exclusive" or whatnot, in an attempt to look neutral. If I was truly planning on staying neutral, I would say just that as a response to this rumor. I would go public and say "at this time we have no plans to choose one side over the other, and will remain neutral" or something to that affect.
Although this is what they usually do, this time they have not. They have been silent. It makes you think that maybe there is something going on and right now they want their HD DVD titles to sell, but they do not want to advertise any choice they will make. Just sell what they have out, and make as much as they can until they go exclusive. They will milk all they can out of both formats before they drop one.
I have heard no rumors with any credibility saying they will go HD DVD exclusive, and I have read all over the net that they will go Blu exclusive. I think this is the only way myself, there is no real choice if they want the HD formats to win.

If I were a business man:
I would wait till after the holidays.
Otherwise you will leave all the retail stores with millions of unsold inventory.

If it were me:

I would pull the plug right now.

Will profil 1.1 or 2.0 alow Blu-ray players to watch a movie, go and watch some bonus, and then go back to the movie where we left ? I think it' sad that Blu don't have "memory" like that...

I expect them to maximize their HD DVD sales by denying everything. It is standard practice.
But they haven't. It might hinder their HD DVD sales just a little cause some people will be wary about buying from them since the Blu-exclusive rumor is so strong and has not been denied.
