Default The rumor is that Warner is coming aboard soon

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine...eek+exclusives

"The rumor is that Warner is coming aboard soon," says Michael Burns, vice-chairman of studio Lionsgate (LGF), which makes its movies available on the Sony-backed format. "That will make it awfully tough for HD DVD to stay in this game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Holy sh*t!!! I hope to god Lionsgate right, please come on board Warner!! We love you!!

Blu-Ray better make it come through now, if not Toshiba might try to buy them out. I hope it will come true and should come true.

Still a rumor
But it comes from a reliable source, well kind of. The question is, what does "Mr. Burnes" really know about this.... i want to believe!

I find the part where it says "sony would not comment, and Toshiba said it is constant contact with the studios." This would be the biggest blow to anyone in the format war. By far, say goodbye to 300, the Harry Potters, and all the other great movies Warner has pumped out. This would seriously put an end to the war. Especially the way the sale numbers have been lately.

This is Huge! Adding everything up from the article. I see no way that Warner will stay with HD DVD.

After this holiday season after all the cheap hd dvd player sales there is no sign of movie sales between the 2 closing I honestly don't see why they would stay neutral.

I don't know about you guys, but when I go into the local BB and see the title selections, from the amount of Blu-rays and the desirability of blu-rays compared to HD DVD, I would not want to purchase an HD DVD player. I hope they get off the price issue of players. HD People are already paying bucks for quality viewing and and player prices are practically benign. I would be looking for the types and amount of titles currently available for my format decision no matter what the cost. I hope Warner has enough vision to see beyond simple bean counter syndrome. My opinion is that Warner will be Blu exclussive in 08.

lol. sony declined to comment. like that part. it's just like when they announced that PSP (slim) is only a rumour, which turned to be true now.

Oh, I just wish they'd spill the beans right now. I guess..we will...wait.

But right now, if I was starting out in the HD game, an HD-DVD player is out of the question.

Right, the gap in sales increased but even with a 25% market, warner IS making money with HD DVD. I don't think they simply watch soft- and hardware sales and decide. Sure, BDA is in huge advantage (software sales, PS3+Player sales) and has a momentum, but to really convince Warner to go exclusive, they need to offer them royalties and/or money to compensate the (few) losses they will make by abandoning the red side. By the way, we need to buy more of those Harry Potter movies on blu

But that is the thing if they do go Blu they WILL increase their profits because that move only makes the end of the format war inevitable and just will slowly kill off HD DVD. Blu-ray player prices can only go lower at this point while HD DVD has practically given them away.

Here's another interesting part of the article:
Sony CEO Howard Stringer has been making personal appeals to Richard Parsons and Jeffrey Bewkes, the two top executives at Warner parent Time Warner
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Could Sony be striking up some deal in the works?? If this happens, HD-DVD will be dead in the water and the porn industry will have no choice but to go blu... because that's the only category left that Blu-ray is lack off...

With Warner jumping off the sinking ship that is hd dvd, I can't imagine Universal staying onboard much longer.

Not to mention, when there's one format, ALOT more people will buy a High Definition players... I know friends that are holding off until one format has prevailed. This will only make things better for us consumers and studios. There would be MORE sales, MORE titles release, MORE players to choose from... It's a WIN situation for both parties.

This could set off a domino effect. Paramount will not opt out of their deal, that 150 mill is still more then they would have made using both formats. However, Warner's move could cause Universal(as already stated) to follow suit and then Weinstein. I don't think HD-DVD can hold on with just Paramount. Their whole existence is set up on a very delicate set up and only having 3 studio is dangerous. It is like playing war and they have 10 cards left and BD has 42. Eventually the 42 will take the 10 and end the game.
