I'm currently looking at B&W FPM5's and Paradigm Millenia 20 Hybrids.

Wanting any opinions, ideally from people who actually have one.

Thx!
Don't know of anyone on this site that has them.. Haven't heard them either but they sure would look nive beside a KURO!

I need your help in a few areas, and hopefully you own or have heard the Paradigm speakers I'm going to mention. Hopefully this posting won't be too long, so bear with me please.

My set up currently follows :
Fronts.......Klipsch RF -3ll
Center.......Klipsch RC-3ll
Surrounds...Klipsch RS-3ll
Sub...........Klipsch KSW-15
Reciever...Onkyo TX-SR875
Amp for front 3 speakers....Emotiva XPA-3 ( on order )
The Onkyo will power the 2 surrounds when the Emotiva arrives.

Room size is 15' x 20' x 8' high and open to a kitchen on one side, living room on the other. I sit 10 feet from my Pioneer Elite PRO FHD-1.

I'm very strongly looking at the Paradigm Studio Series speakers....
Front's.... Studio 60
Center.... Studio CC-490
Surrounds...Studio ADP-590
Sub........SUB 12

This is a highly recommended speaker set up by my Paradigm dealer, and it has also been a highly recommended set up on Perfect Vision.
Now for my two questions.

SURROUNDS...since my surrounds are on the side walls and are about 8 inches from the back wall, would it be better to get the Studio 10's or maybe the Studio 20's for the rear surrounds over the Studio ADP-590's ? My reason is that some of the 590's speakers will ( may ? ) bounch off the rear wall. If I got either the 10's or the 20's I could mount them on the side wall and aim them where I wanted and no sound would bounce off the rear wall. They would be mounted about 6 1/2 feet high. And not to mention the 590's are about $1400.00 pair..while the 10's are $400.00 each or the 20's are $600.00 each....saving a few $$$$ would be great, but if the 590's would sound and work better, then they'll be chosen.

SUBWOOFER...while my current sub sounds good, it would be nice to get something better. I did not get to hear any of the Paradigm subs , since they did not have any in stock. They also sold both demos of the 12 and 15.

So, I somewhat find it hard to spend $2000.00 for the Sub12...let alone $2800.00 for the Sub 15. I'm open to suggestions for other subs that would hopefully be under $1000.00. I love good tight bass, and lots of it. And one that could work well in my size room. And I'm not opposed to keeping my Klipsch KSW-15 sub as long as it would sound good with the Paradigm's.
If you've heard the Paradigm subs, are they good ? Worth the $$$ ? I really can't afford the 15, so, would the 12 work for my room ?

I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THIS SET UP WILL BE USED ABOUT 95% MOVIES AND 5% MUSIC

Update...I also forgot to mention that this will be a 5.1 set up
Thanks in advance.
OK...after several re-listening visits I'm going with the 60's for the front, CC-590 for center ( space is the main reason ) and SVS PB12-Plus on the sub.
The surrounds are somewhat up in the air. They will be mounted on the side wall, obviously, and right about even with me and 6 1/2 feet off the ground and sit 8 inches from the rear wall. One speaker will be basically 8 inches from glass ( sliding glass door ) instead of a wall.

So, stick with the Paradigm studio ADP-590, possibly Paradigm ADP-390 or maybe get direct facing speakers like Studio 10's. I don't care if they do stick out farther than say the ADP-590, I'm looking for great surround sound quality. I've never had direct facing speakers for surrounds so not sure exactly what that type of set up would sound like.

Congrats!! Hope you don't have to wait long!

for the surrounds I think if they're only 8 inches from the back wall I would go for straight firing vs the ADP's. You might get an uneven sound with the back end of each ADP-bouncing right off the back wall.

I don't know what kind of mounts could be used for the newer Studios but I think I did see a gallery on here that mounted Studio 10's or 20's. I have Direct firing on the sides and ADP's in the rear but the rears are barely used. Personally, I prefer them as my main surrounds for both movies multi-channel music. Some prefer Bipoles/Dipole but from your description of your space I would go for Studio 10's.

[QUOTE=gatomalo;3371793]paradigm studio 100's, suggested amp for these 230 max watt speakers?[/QU

I don't have the 100's, but I will be getting the 60's shortly. I'll be powering the front three with my newly purchased Emotiva XPA-3. It's currently powering my Klipsch reference, but then again, Kilpsch are pretty effecent. I don't know about the Paradigms, but I'm sure at 200 watts per channel, it will be more than enough.

And since this was my first amp, the $599.00 was well worth it to see if having amps do / can help.

Good luck.

I use the Pioneer SC-07 with my 100's and it doesn't quite have enough juice. Some friends of mine were over today listening to the 100's for the first time and also agreed with me. For lower to average levels of listening the Pioneer does just fine, it's only when you want to listen loudly that we noticed the lack of slam that we were all expecting. Below -10 the Pioneer handles them fine, any louder and it doesn't sound as good. I've been thinking of trying three Emotiva UA-1's, I also have the cc690 which could use a bit more power as well. Your listening habits and room size will determine if you need any more power.

I'm thinkin of selling my ADP-390's. Anyone interested.. make an offer .
They're a year and 5 months old - v5's like new with original boxes and wall mounting brackets. Pretty much the same as the v6 but with black screws instead of chrome. MSRP for new v6's is $499/ea USD.

They weren't used much.. placed as rears in a 7.2 setup but only got a few 7.1 movies

Man I would be all over those 390s if I had the cash. What are you planning on replacing the 390s with?

Just ordered a pair of Energy RC-R's. I know it's not Paradigm but they are great surround speakers. They still won't be used as often as my main surrounds but now when they are used I can play with all three options: bipole/dipole and now even monopole without them sticking out as much as a normal bookshelf. I think I might like a straight firing better but we'll see. And as for timber matching - I doubt I'll even hear it like I did with the main surrounds.

Didn't get wife approval but I hope she won't notice . Hopefully the trade-off for the ADP's cancels out most of the expense... that'll be my excuse if she does notice . Just put'em up for sale locally so I hope to get some replies.

Aces, why not save money and buy the xpa-3 instead of 3 upa-1's? Isn't it it the same wattage?

The UPA-1's are monoblocks. Monoblocks are typically known to have better perfomance. This is because there is no "cross talk" between two (or more) different channels being driven in the same chassis.

It's not only the number of watts that I'm looking at, the UPA-1's are supposed to have better SQ for music than the XPA-3. Music performance is important to me and for how much I've already spent on this system the price difference doesn't really matter. If a had the space I'd get the XPA-1's. So far the 100's have been pretty good but still not quite what I'm looking for, I think next year I'll try out the S6 and C5.

Not sure.. I just copied and pasted from the ad. Not sure when the v3's came out but I'm guessing around 10 years ago.. maybe less. You can contact through Winnipeg Kijiji.

If I was still there I would probably buy the package and resell a few things.. theres alot there for $1000.

I grew up in Winnipeg but I don't live there anymore.. still got lots of family there though.

This is my first visit to the Paradigm Thread.
I have recently switched all of my speakers to Paradigms(And have loved the sound)Both with Movies and Music.

I recently purchased a pair of Paradigm ADP-190 v.6's for Side Surround Use.They are replacing Klipsch S2 Hybrid Bipolar Surrounds(Which were set up so exact speaker placement wasn't a neccessity)

In reading the ADP Manual on Speaker Position it seems that positioning is more important to get their full benefit.
If I place them on my side walls(where the other surrounds were)And where I am mostly confined to placing them,if I want them wall mounted.(Without going thru a lot of extra work).

If I place them on the wall in the location I am referring to(Their blank solid side will be about a foot to foot and a half(12 to 18in) ahead of my ears, due to where I have to sit).

Will this cause issues with getting proper performance from them.As the side facing forward will have the wall to reflect off of.Also the rear drivers will have the rear wall to reflect off of.

But I will be in a position,if I looked at the surround,I could see the rear facing drivers.
Will I still get the effect of rear wall reflection.Or will me being able to see the rear firing drivers cause me to hear more direct radiating sound, and little rear relection.(Which would eliminate some of the speakers effectiveness)Considering the design and desired effect.

But since my Room is a 10ft X 10ft,and the surrounds will be at the five foot mark in the room.My head(ears)will be around the 6 foot to 6 foot 6 inch mark.

Does anyone know from experience or have any idea if this would be acceptable(and allow me to gain the full benefit of the ADP's Dipole/Bipole mixed design)Or would it cause me to actually lose much of the ambient surround field I would gain if they were dead even with my ear location.

As I noticed in the manual there was a drawing of the surrounds wall mounted. And it showed some arrows with amount of degrees radiating from the surrounds.

Or is anyone using them on stands in the rear corners ? If so,how far away do you have them pulled away from the corners(into the room).I could also try that since my room is so small. And if I pulled them into the room(around 18 to 24 inches).

How High would they need to be if on stands with the corner configuration. As I would hate to mount these surrounds where I can not take full advantage of their design and performance.

So,sorry for the Long,Drawn Out Post.
But I wanted to explain everything as completely as I could.

Hey callas,my Friend.Good to hear from you.
Dont spend time in the Speaker Threads anymore
(so haven't had a chance to chat with you recently).

I Hope You and the Wife and all, have been doing well, the last several months.
Have to say I have missed chatting with you.Especially hearing your opinions on Speaker Performance. And the knowledge you so kindly shared with me,many times.

I started off in March, buying phannsons Mint Condition Paradigm Studio cc-570 v.3.
I was going to buy New Energy's(all the way around)
Already had the Fronts and Surrounds picked out.(The Center I was still debating on).

So,I had every thing arranged and planned on getting the Fronts(on a certain date and time)
They were from the CF Series I want to say(If that sounds right)
Towers with a Couple of Woofers and a single Tweeter.
Was going to see what kind of deal I could get on two models(one the next step up)To know which pair I would be getting.

But just a few days before,Phannson upgraded his Center to the cc-690 v.5 Studio. He had the Mint Condition Paradigm Studio CC-570 v.3(With original box, manuals, packaging)to sale, and was extremely Kind Hearted and Generous in working things out so I could purchase the Center.

Once I heard the Center I was hooked.
In Early May I got a Like New Pair of Titan v.5's in the original box and packaging.Compared them head to head with my Polk TSi-400's and the Titans were the speakers I kept.
I was also blessed there,as they had been placed on a desk, and seen very, very little use.

About a week and a half ago,a local Audio Dealer was having a liquidation sale. They had an in-store Demo Pair or the ADP-190 v.6's for a price that had be thinking I was in a dream.
So they also came with boxes, manuals, wall mounts, the works.

And I had a 7 Channel System with the two pair of Klipsch S2 Surrounds.I seldomly watch 6 or 7 channel Blu's(and dont matrix my settings)So I sold the rear pair. Then, the side pair when I saw I wanted to match Paradigms all the way around.

And I got an offer from someone else with a 6 channel Paradigm Set-up.They had a Like New Atom v.2,that has hardly ever been used(Looks as new as all the others)

So that is how I was Blessed in getting a Full Paradigm System.

Just had the amp arrive Thursday,so need to do a few things and reconnect my system. So,I can enjoy my SACD's and Blu-Rays.

The Polks and Klipsch's were great with Movies and Good with Music.
But hearing the Paradigms in my room, was all it took.
And a Paradigm owner,customer,and fan I became
.

How have you been.
And any changes with your gear recently ?
