I have a question for those with the Monitor versions of the 9G and those who own a Mac computer. Do you use the Kuro as a monitor for you computer activities? Even in split screen mode?
I would like to do this when I receive my new Mac next week. It has a MiniDisplay port out, but I'm not sure which adapter to buy to hook it up to my 141FD. Anybody with info please advise Thanks!

I don't see why you couldn't use a mini display port to HDMI adapter.
Here's one

I thought of that, but if I use the HDMI input, I won't be able to do split screen on the TV. I have tried using two HDMI devices (HD-PVR cable box and PS3) split screen, but it seems that the TV won't accept two HDMI inputs for split screen. Therefore if I plan on having my PS3 or HD PVR running on one side, and the computer on the other, I would need to utilize one of the PC inputs on the monitor. I'm just not sure which one to use exactly, or which would be best.

There are mini display port to vga adapters.
As far as having 2 inputs working at the same time, I don't think it is possible.

When I was playing around with the TV, it let me have my PVR on on one side of the screen, and it was asking me to select an input for the 2nd half of the screen... either DVI VGA, or one of the Component/Composite inputs... but no HDMI.

Hmm. I'll have to take a look at the manual for my KRP.
If that's the case then, I would think that either the VGA or DVI would be perfect for that.

I was helping a family member move a PRO-141FD onto a different TV cabinet the other day. I noticed on the back of the Pioneer PRO-141FD that it was manufactured in October 2008. I always thought November 2008 was the earliest manufacturing date for the PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD, but now I know the first Elite Signature series were made in October 2008. Since I have installed several Pioneer Elite Signature PRO-141FD's and PRO-101FD's for family members in different parts of the US I have seen several different manufacturing dates. October 2008 is the earliest and April 2009 is the latest. The PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD were assembled in the United States using both USA and imported parts between the months of October 2008 and April 2009. April 2009 is when the Pioneer USA plasma factory stopped assembling plasmas in the United States.

Correction: It looks like I was wrong. According to the following post link the first Signature Elites were assembled in August 2008.

Hi guys, I was watching Boondock Saints 2 last night and whenever there would be a scene with subtitles my TV would cut half of them off. So it was really annoying not knowing what they were saying. How can I fix this? I tried going into the menu on the TV but I couldn't find a fix. Thanks

I am note sure but I would guess that would be an issue with the BD player

hmmm I'm not sure what exactly the problem could be, but it could be the settings in the Pioneer. Would it have something to do with it's protection settings? Pio has settings like Auto Size-Wide Zoom, Side Mask-Mode 1 or 2, HD Wide Mode-Mode 1 or 2. There is also Closed Caption settings. Most likely it's in the Closed Caption settings on your tv.

The Pioneer is working fine, the problem is the OPPO BDP-83 subtitle shift needs to be moved from -5 to 0. The 1224 firmware update added subtitle shift option but the problem was the default setting was set to -5 instead of 0. See this post back on Jan 10th 2010 regarding this small problem

A issue using the Pioneer PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD with a OPPO BDP-83

I have the OPPO BDP-83 set to up convert everything to 36 bit deep color when connected to a PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD. The blacks are very deep and the overall picture quality looks excellent even though all source material on Blu-ray is native 24 bit color depth.

On two different OPPO BDP-83's and two different Pioneers I am able to reproduce a minor glitch when the OPPO communicates with the display. Perhaps this problem only occurs when the OPPO tries to communicate with the Pioneer and might not happen on other brands or models of displays. Also I did not try turning off 36 bit deep color to see if the glitch goes away. I am not sure if the problem started to occur after the latest 1224 firmware update or if the problem was there before.

Normally before I turn on the OPPO BDP-83, I first will switch the Pioneer display to the HDMI input that the OPPO player is connected too or switch the Pioneer A/V receiver to the HDMI input that the OPPO player is connected too. After doing that I turn on the OPPO BDP-83. Doing this every time produces an excellent picture with deep black levels and excellent results with 36 bit deep color upconvert.

The problem (The gray black level glitch)

Once and a while I started turning on the OPPO BDP-83 before I switch the Pioneer display to the HDMI input that the BLU-RAY player is connected too or before I switch the A/V receiver to the Blu-ray HDMI input. Almost every time when I turn on the BLU-RAY player first I noticed that the OPPO main menu appears to have grayer or lighter blacks. Then when I play a movie the black levels are terrible since they look gray. To fix the problem I have to power cycle the OPPO BDP-83. Then once I do that the picture is excellent with deep blacks and excellent image again.

The correct order to turn on equipment to get the deepest blacks and best picture quality

1. First switch the Pioneer PRO-141FD or PRO-101FD monitor or A/V receiver to the BLU-RAY HDMI input.

2. Second push the OPPO BDP-83 player power button to power up the player.

Ways to reproduce the gray blacks and overall lower picture quality (I am using 36 bit deep color and firmware 1224, I did not try other firmware or try turning off deep color)

1. If the OPPO BDP-83 has been turned off for a couple of hours then power on the OPPO BDP-83 (a warm player will not reproduce the issue, it has to be off for awhile).

2. Now switch the Pioneer PRO-141FD or PRO-101FD input to the BLU-RAY HDMI input. If you have a A/V receiver then switch the A/V receiver to the BLU-RAY HDMI input mode.

It would be ideal if OPPO would release a firmware update to fix this issue

HDTV1080P, it sounds as if you may have an HDMI handshake issue regarding Color Space/RGB Level. I am no expert on HDMI. But it seems possible that a component that is not powered up or not selected to the correct source may not allow the OPPO to complete the appropriate HDMI handshake. As you noted, the simple fix is to power up & source the components in the appropriate order. But here is another possible solution.

Is Color Space on the OPPO set to Auto? If so, manually change it to RGB Video Level or YCbCr 4:4:4. Then, try various source sequences again. See if one of those Color Space settings produces consistent results.

Will I notice a difference in picture quality if the bd player is set to Auto or RGB or ycbcr? Which one should I set it to get the best PQ from my Pio plasma?

Also, does that effect the Pio's ability with it's upconverting processing of 1080p/24 sources to 1080p/72? I want to be able to watch content in 1080p/72 and get the best PQ from it.

I been testing the Film Mode settings on my pro-151FD. With 480i, 720p, 1080i sources it's best to set Film Mode to Standard, and 'AV Selection' to Auto or dot-by-bot.

I have Comcast cable tv that only goes up to 1080i and I tried watching HBO movies that are in 1080i set to 'Film Mode-Advance' and it wasn't as good. It looked like how YouTube videos look on LCD monitors, very digitized and overly processed. I just wanted to share that.

The first Signature Elites were assembled in late August 2008 (I have a September 2008 101FD). The last were assembled mid April 2009.

Thanks for the information. I did not realize the first Signature Elites were assembled in August 2008. I was always told the first was in Nov 2008. When was the first standard 9th generation Pioneers assembled and standard Elites?
