From last night:

Zombieland - 4/5

I didn't think it would be very good actually, just decent. But it turned out to be hilarious. Very fun movie indeed.

[Show spoiler]TWINKIES!!!

PQ - 4.5/5; It looked great.

AQ - ?/5; I watched it at a friends house who doesn't have a 5.1 system, so we just listened to it through the television.

Today:

Chronicles of Riddick - 4/5

I love this movie, just as much if not more than Pitch Black. I find it quite good.

PQ - 4.5/5

AQ - Somewhere between 4.5/5 and 5/5

Taken - 4.5/5

I don't have much to knock in this movie (the annoying daughter is the first most glaring thing), Liam Neeson is fantastic and kicks immeasurable amounts of ***.

PQ - 4.5/5, may not be reference but it looks VERY good.

AQ - 5/5; the audio on this one is amazing. Especially the guns

in the stylistic sense? no. but it wasn't style that i was comparing, but just quality of the plot/script in general.

unlike braveheart and gladiator, there just wasn't as much background before the protagonist's quest began (or at least not enough for the audience to get as emotionally engaged as in braveheart/gladiator). i actually think the first half of 300 (before battle) could have been longer, but what do i know? 300 was a huge success, and i'm an office worker

I would agree with Surf's score of 3/5 for 300.

I watched it a while back, and I moderately liked it, but I didn't think it was as amazing as so many people thought. It just wasn't my thing I suppose.

I agree with the 3/5 as well for 300. There's nothing wrong with loving the movie, as I see the appeal, but it's nothing I would watch again personally.

BTW, I would say the AQ for Zombieland is 4.5 at least.

Make Way for Tomorrow on Criterion DVD.

Probably the saddest movie I've ever seen and an instant entry into my top 100 of all time. Orson Welles was quoted as saying that the movie could make a stone cry, he could have been right.

Lost: Season 5

Show: 4/5
-overall, thought it was great
-downside: same Lost-plot strategy (i.e., person A and person B in a scene. Person A is "good", person B is "bad," you don't know if person A will flip to being "bad" and person B will flip to being "good". you dont know who to trust. its a cool script strategy, but does get old after a few seasons )

PQ and AQ were 5/5, insanely good as always

It showed him as a small child learning military/geographical stategies while battling a tiger. Thats enough for me. Plus it was meant to be overdramatic with cheesey dialog to keep the flavor of the graphic novel. You didnt have your head adjusted propery for the type of movie that it is.

How to Train Your Dragon.

Great story. Good dialog. Good wholesome message. GREAT voice work. Killer action sequences. Beautiful emotional flight sequences. Loveable quirky characters. Emotional moments that rival the best of Disney/Pixar films. (Yeah, I said that). Jaw, and I mean JAWDROPPING animation.

Toy Story 3 needs to be perfect, or there will be a close battle for the Oscar.

Very very close to perfect.

4.75/5

Dont wait for the Blu-ray.

I am still shaking my head at the detail in the animation. Just sick, really. There must have been hundreds of animators working on this.

Some of the bursts of Dragon flames were almost as good
[Show spoiler]as mini-guns. Well, not really, but they were AWESOME.

I'm going to have to wait for the blu-ray
My theater only has it in 3D...which I don't like and it is $13 bucks per ticket here now

Please be a quick release

I didn't think it would be that good. Yowzers.

Edit: HOLY CRAP! Craig Ferguson is in it!
And Gerard Butler! (I knew that one but for some reason forgot)

Darn you 3D only releases!

Sorry to hear that man. I sure hope my theaters dont pull that 3D only jazz.

Well, on the bright side, it will be a 5 star Blu-ray.

They didn't do it with Alice...but I didn't have interest in that one...

I hope we don't start doing 3D only for EVERY 3D available movie
I want my 2D

True that

Toy Story

PQ - 5.0
AQ - 4.5
Film - 5.0

Hard to believe, but today was the first time I had ever seen Toy Story. I am glad it was on Blu-Ray, as the disc is stellar. The movie looked great and the AQ was nearly as good. It wasn't quite up there with the very best for AQ, but it still sounded great and had very nice bass in a few instances. Back to the movie though. It was a lot of fun and I can see myself watching this many times. I'm not sure if it's my favorite Pixar movie yet, as I've yet to see Toy Story 2 and I really love Wall-E, but it was still a great movie either way. I think my favorite part was with the toy soldiers during their "mission" to find out the presents. Toy Story 2 is up tomorrow...
