Oh, it's a definite possibility, but as Warner don't really seem to care about this franchise (or most of their catalogue titles on UHD), I'm not holding my breath.

With Wes gone, Robert Englund really needs to start banging on some doors to get Nightmare upgraded.

Seriously.. I can’t believe Nightmare has been ignored like this, Wes did pick a terrible time to pass away. I’m betting we’ll get the original this year, but I’m already geared to be pissed as I need em all.

Neither did New Line in all fairness. They never kept the censoered footage from 1 & 5, which is why we've never seen uncut disc releases. By the looks of it it would take someone being able to track down uncut film prints somewhere to be able to restore them. Based on that it's highly unlikely that the elements still exist for each eye of FD's 3d sequence as well. It would have been nice to have seen that in colour 3d at some point, but I can't see any chance of that happening.

The first film desperately needs some restoration. It suffered some kind of damage during it's processing, and that's affected it ever since, with it looking quite soft compared to the others. It's only gotten worse with bodged tinkering that have affected the colour and caused missing audio. It's long overdue someone put this right.

If Shout don't at least do a BD set like F13th it would surprise me, lots of money in it

Actually it wouldn't surprise me if Warner did do NIGHTMARE on 4K this year.

But the sequels? Hmm... I wouldn't bet my testes.

I'd say the only chance we'll see a box set is if Shout can persuade Warner to license the series... and then it'll cost a forking bomb!

If Nightmare does get a UHD then I imagine it'll be the R-rated US theatrical cut. That must be what the OCN is conformed to. A half-decent boutique label would try sourcing the additional footage elsewhere, but Warners probably aren't even aware of there being a different cut.

I don't believe WB have the rights to Nightmare 1,
according to RE, a few years back,
Wes Craven's estate got the full rights around then.

I’m also surprised we haven’t seen this hit 4K yet. A set would be awesome but I’d be happy to at least have the first one as a start. If it’s finally uncut it would be even better.

It would have to be uncut or it's a hard pass. The cut on the Blu-ray (and DVD) is so obvious to me that it's like someone spitting in my face. I'm not paying for that a second time.

The Craven estate has the rights to the characters, which gives them the right to make more films, books etc. It doesn't have any bearing on anything that's pre-existing.

I've still only got it on VHS as I refuse to watch the cut version when we always had it uncut on Video/ TV for so many years.

They already got the US rights to the first film, back in 2019, not related to the ownership of characters, and going by what Robert Englund has said, they were getting the rights elsewhere as well.
