I was expecting Bradley Cooper but Ryan will also do, just glad it's not Timberlake. I wasn't really disappointed, more surprised because he's going to play Deadpool.

I thought there was some sort of an agreement or something. I'm sursprised he gets to do a DC movie after doing a Marvel movie. I thought Marvel wouldn't take anybody involved with DC and vice versa.

Marvel and Fox are two different things. Fox owns Marvel properties, which Marvel has zero control over and are basically gone from the new "Marvel Universe".

Ryan Reynolds is already 2 different characters in the Marvel movies.

What's your point?

Fox owns the rights to the X-men and Fantastic Four, {and I believe a few others} but Iron Man, Avengers, Hulk, etc. Are all under Marvel studios.

Ryan Reynolds has been talking about the character of Deadpool for years before Wolverine happened. I don't think he'd give up his chance to really do Deadpool full-on.

If he drops one of them, he'll drop Green Lantern. Anyway, he's probably already signed on for Deadpool (having already done the character in Wolverine, where Deadpool was always planned as a potential spin-off), but it's probably not even official with Green Lantern yet (and if it IS already official, he'll probably not be dropping either).

Brand loyalty doesn't mean a lot here. They're going to use the best talent at their disposal regardless of who they've worked with in the past. I think people like to dramatize the competition between comic companies and forget that it's not as hardcore as they think (especially as far as a simple thing like an actor playing a character).

Apparently I missed them all. Although some titles ring a bell, I can't say I have seen any films he's done. The only thing I know him from was that pizza place sitcom, and that sucked.

I see him more of a Kyle than a Hal, but I wouldn't be opposed either way. He was brilliant in Waiting.

I can see this working. I'm not a big fan of Reynolds, he's okay, but I am a big fan of Campbell and I'm sure he'll deliver a great film. It'll be interesting to see him tackle a sci-fi/fantasy film as opposed to adventure.

Why would he drop Green Lantern for a Deadpool movie that doesn't have a script, a director attached, and locations scouted like GL does? He has plenty of time to shoot GL while Deadpool goes through development hell at Fox. And really, who will care about Deadpool in a year other than comic book guys? Two months after the blu-ray/dvd release of Wolverine: Origins nobody will care anymore. And do you think they will make a decent Deadpool since its being developed at Fox?

i agree with you. but you know, this time i think warner is getting it right for a change. they actually have an actor with talent playing the title role of one of their beloved comic book characters. this should certainly be good. much better than steel anyway or supergirl. i can see this movie working really well.

I only meant if he could only make one. Of course there is plenty of time to complete both films, but people seemed to be making up stories about how he might only be able to do one or the other for CONTRACTUAL reasons.

And it doesn't matter if I believe Fox can deliver a quality adaptation. Reynolds believes they can and that's all that matters.

And when the guy is making movies like Fireflies in the Garden or Buried, I don't think he cares much if movies will end up being largely forgotten by the general population. Hell, I never even heard about Fireflies in the Garden and I consider myself a fan of his work.

Here's an interesting take on it from MTV

Quote:
Now that Ryan Reynolds has been tagged to play both Green Lantern and Deadpool in upcoming films, there’s no small amount of buzz regarding how the DC hero’s big-screen debut could affect the Marvel mercenary’s solo spin-off film. With both films currently scheduled for release in 2011, will doubling up mean that one film will suffer at the expense of the other, or could competition between the two projects benefit fans of both characters?

We aren’t likely to receive answers to these questions anytime soon, but there does seem to be cause for concern — or joy, depending on how you look at it — for fans of DC’s Emerald Knight and Marvel’s Merc With A Mouth.

“Deadpool as Green Lantern? Sounds good to me!! The Deadpool budget just got bigger fo sho,” wrote Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld in a Twitter post Friday evening, just after the news hit the ‘Net.

But will the “Deadpool” movie really benefit from Reynolds’ involvement in “Green Lantern“?

With a “Green Lantern” script in its final stages and production expected to kick off in January, Hal Jordan has a significantly shorter leap to the big screen right now than Deadpool’s alter ego, Wade Wilson, who still needs a writer for his solo film. Currently, both films are scheduled for release in 2011, with “Green Lantern” staking out a place in theaters June 17.

While it’s conceivable that production for both films could occur in the same calendar year, “Green Lantern” is intended to be one of Warner Bros’ blockbuster releases for 2011, so it’s likely to require a major commitment from Reynolds for the first half of 2010.

Ryan Reynolds“Deadpool,” on the other hand, occupies a more uncertain place in the Fox film hierarchy. A lesser-known character who received very little screen time in his one and only big-screen bow, there’s little reason to expect Fox to invest at a level similar to Warner Bros’ “Green Lantern” budget. The hefty paycheck Reynolds is likely to demand now that he’s landed the “Green Lantern” lead could also play into a potential “Deadpool” casting dilemma.

Furthermore, though it’s not unheard of for two major comic book movies to premiere during the same calendar year (”Iron Man” and “The Dark Knight” premiered just over two months apart in 2008), featuring the same actor in both films is a new gamble — and despite his role in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Deadpool’s smaller fan base and controversial debut make him the underdog in this race.

This makes the possibility of a delayed premiere for “Deadpool” likely if Reynolds indeed takes on both roles — but will audiences wait that long? And if Reynolds doesn’t end up bringing the character to the screen, who will?

Reynolds has earned a lot of cred from comic book fans for his portrayal of the character in the early portions of “Wolverine” and during interviews both ahead of the film and since the solo movie was announced. Whether fans will rally around a new Wade Wilson is yet another question that could determine the project’s fate.

Finally, one of the last — and possibly most important — questions that remain is: Will fans accept Reynolds in both roles? If a “Deadpool” movie plays out as Reynolds has suggested in interviews, we’ll be seeing far more of the character’s scarred face and signature mask — so there could be less cause for concern with the actor’s double-dipping. Historically, audiences have been willing to accept actors taking on multiple, iconic roles in movies released close to each other in the calendar. Harrison Ford did it with the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” franchises, after all.

In the end, the battle between DC’s cosmic policeman and Marvel’s mercenary could just come down to which character has the better story to tell — and that’s a competition fans should be happy to instigate.

Thanks for the post GreenScar. I do not think that Green Lantern and Deadpool will premier around the same time as GL is rolling and Deadpool hasn't a script nor a director. Also, while I think there are a fair amount of people who do not prefer one actor playing two iconic roles from comic books, I doubt that will affect box office numbers.

I'm still not sure exactly how Green Lantern will affect the Deadpool film. Maybe it'll bring a larger budget or maybe FOX will decide (as the article suggests) that deadpool doesn't have as bankable a following as say X-Men.

I will be unhappy if this does stop the wheels of a Deadpool film.

Again, I'll point to the likes of Fireflies in the Garden and Buried. This guy is not a shmuck. He's not going to do Green Lantern for a huge pay check then immediately turn around and tell Fox to pay up the big bucks for Deadpool.

And again, they're comparing directly as though Deadpool and Green Lantern are similar characters. Deadpool is a mutant mercenary, Green Lantern is an intergalactic super hero. This isn't a case like if the actor playing Batman also was to play Iron Man. The fact that they both come from comics is secondary to the nature of the characters themselves and the sort of story the character would be involved with.

Fox only has X-men to work with, and they are including Deadpool as a "X-men" property. They're not going to so easily give up a potential leg of their only profitable franchise. Deadpool is a fan favorite, and if they can push the turd known as Dragon Ball Evolution through theatres, I expect they'll be able to push a Deadpool film of at LEAST that quality.

I think he is the perfect choice for Deadpool but...

There are some Green Lanterns he could pull off but Jordan? I don't see it. He could surprise me and nail it but I can't picture him playing Hal Jordan. Maybe Kyle Rayner.
