3rd Eye Blind: Holy Cross U in Worcester, MA. With my friend Michelle. Very fun. Aerosmith: Comcast center in Mansfield, MA. With Michelle again, but this time I was me suggesting the concert. Awesome show through and through. Only bother was the scent of stoners, but no big. TM Revolution: Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD. The man was moved to the point of happy tears. He really had no idea the kind of fanbase he had outside of Japan, and when he came to do his first ever concert in America he was in for a big surprise. I myself never realized that Hot Limit on DDR was an English language Eurobeat cover of his J-Rock song. Larc En Ciel: First Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD. We got a preview of FullMetal Alchemist while awaiting setup. I had a rockin' good time at this one. This was Larc's 1st ever time in America, and they did produce a DVD of it "Live in the USA." Yoko Ishida: Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA. I love me some Eurobeat covers of anime songs! Her many sexy outfits didn't hurt either. After the concert, she came to the dance and did an encore. Kalafina: Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA. This trio of Japonesses can sing many powerful, sometimes mysterious numbers. Wide range of instruments used in the backgrounds too: from guitars and drums to flutes. Smile.DK: Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, WA. I got all the way up the front row with this cool chick I had been dancing with. They did new and songs, lots of dancing, and rekindled my addiction to their music. To make my friend Erica proud, I shouted "Freebird!" during a song break. Guy next me told me to die. JAM Project: First Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD. 5 Japanese singers responsible for various intro and ending themes, including my favourite song of the show: Cha-LA HEAD Cha-LA from Dragon Ball Z Video Game Orchestra: Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA. Consisting of a pit orchestra, metal band, choir, and solo singer, this famous team showed just how cool video game music can be. There used to be a concert every few weeks at the Agora (a small hall theater) in Columbus, Ohio in the 70's when I was an undergrad at Ohio State. The acoustics were excellent and everyone was relatively close to the stage. I saw most of my concerts there, or the larger Veteran's Memorial Colosseum, or (least preference) Cleveland Stadium including:
Donovan Iron Butterfly Rick Derringer Manfred Mann's Earth Band Montrose (singer Sammy Hagar) James Gang Argent Ted Nugent (twice) Boston (twice, first one was Oct '76 after release of first album) Kansas (twice, first time was after release of Leftoverture, best concert I've seen) Todd Rungren's Utopia Aerosmith (1976) Buddy Rich Kiss (1977) REO Speedwagon Pink Floyd (Animals) Nazareth David Bowie Black Sabbath (w/Ozzy) (After Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath) Uriah Heep Styx (after release of Equinox) and many others that I can't recall at the moment. My older step-brother was the big concert-goer, and saw pretty much everyone at the time, including Janis Joplin, The Doors, Hendrix, and he saw the original Dark Side of the Moon concert that Floyd put on at Kent State. First concert was 11/14/80 Van Halen, St. Pete FL. Notice I said Van HALEN, not Van HAGAR. Great show. We drove up from Sarasota. It was just a few months after a barge hit the old Skyway Bridge. So that part of the bridge, like 150 feet over the bay, is dangling. I am 17, driving my car. At the top of the bridge, my buddies open all the doors. AHOLES. lol. Tampa Stadium, the one the Bucs played in before Raymond James. Just found the stub! Pink Floyd, early 90s, GT Football Stadium. Atlanta Some idiot was climbing up the rafters under the seats above us. Police spent half the concert trying to get him down. Sideshow during lulls in the concert. Allman Brothers Opening up for Stevie Ray Vaughan, St. Pete Bayfront Civic Center. It was for the Seven Turns album of the Allman Brothers. Greg was drunk as a skunk, slurring every word, we all just laughed whenever he said something. Band sounded great though, Warren Hayes and Dickie Betts. SRV was SUPER HUMAN on guitar. Playing behind his back and over his head!!! Had my future ex-wife with me, OH WHAT A NIGHT! Super Bowl Of Rock N Roll 10 in The Tangerine Bowl in Orlando. Heart was headlining. Cheap Trick. Pat Travers. Triumph among the bands. Cool seeing Rick Nielsen and his 5 neck guitar. Bought a bootleg shirt. Later find out that although it had all the acts, incorrectly says Rock Super Bowl XI. Foghat, 80s, opening for Blue Oyster Cult at Lakeland Civic Center, 80s. Fleetwood Mac, late 80s with Stevie Nicks. Stevie had a tent on stage, changed after every song it seemed. Robert Plant, late 80s Eric Clapton at the height of his 80s career. Don Henley, late 80s, that was for the album that had All She Wants To Do Is Dance Rolling Stones, Tangerine Bowl, 1981, only time that Van Halen and the Stones played on the same venue. Van Halen was the opening act. You had to mail off for tickets at the unheard of price of $50 bucks! DLR shot a moon at the crowd, said that was for the local newspaper music critic. We worked up to the front wall for the Stones, back in the day of "stadium seating" with no assigned seats. It was hot as Hades and overcast with unbearable humidity. Security was hosing us off with the reclaimed water they used to irrigate the field with. It was so chlorinated, all our eyes were burning. A hot little number asked to mount my shoulders for She's My Little T and A. After, a guy next to her gave her something. She turned purple and we passed her over the fence to security. There was bad acid at the show. A friend of ours took some, missed the show and awoke in the back of someone's pickup. During the show, this big guy was standing up passed out and leaning on people. We were packed like sardines, swaying. He would lean on my, I would push him off, then lean on someone else who would do the same. I am a big guy too. My friend was like, cold cock this guy! I didn't he eventually got pushed out of the crowd. Good times. Drank my first warm beer at the time. 19, and drinking was legal while in a car, just as long as you were not drunk. Early 90s, Blue Oyster Cult, Gwinett GA Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge Tour early 90s, GA Dome. Got to go backstage after Brian Adams opened and then got 5th row seats...know someone in security. Little River Band Mableton, GA great little ampitheater 10 miles from my house Atlanta Rhythm Section Mableton Awesome show in a 7k size ampitheater. Gloria Estafan, in her hay day, with all the little Glorias all over the venue. Was in either in Tampa or St. Pete. this was her come back tour from breaking her back. Got to see her right before the '96 Olympics in Atlanta, she wrote the theme song for the games. At the end, really cool, had several U.S. Olympians come on stage. Oct 1 2007, Allman Brothers Band, Lakewood Amphitheater Atlanta, bummed, it was a double bill with Lynyrd Skynyrd, but they had to cancel. moe. was subbed. Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benetar, Chastain Park Atlanta, early 00s. Humid as the dickens, heat index over 100. People fainting. Beach Boys early 00s. You know you are getting old when the concert you are at is at a volume low enough you can use a cell phone. Kenny G....date concert, lol, 1980s. Dan Fogelberg, another date concert, mid 80s. Won tickets from 102.5 in Sarasota along with dinner for 2. Took a nurse that was 8 years older then me. 8-O John Sebastion, another date concert, he was a member of a 60s band, the Grass Roots, later wrote the theme for Welcome Back Kotter. While doing his show, this obnoxious dude would not shut up, trying to get him to play this song or that, real loud. The concert was in a small night club. Finally John says, dude, you are stepping on my shovel when I am trying to work, lol. Genesis mid 80s, around time of "Duke". Phil Collins played the drums for two hours and was jumping all over the place, I thought he was on coke, lol. Yes, mid 80s, Sun Dome, USF Campus Tampa. Top of the Dome is inflated, you have to pass through large turning doors to get into the building to maintain the pressure. During the concert, people get up on the roof and you can see them through the fabric. Rod Stewart, 1985, first concert allowed back into Tampa Stadium since the riot at the Led Zep concert in 1975 when the show was cancelled due to rain and the fear of electrocuting the band. Rod Stewart wore a black oversize T shirt that said in big white letters "Stay Alive In 85". U2 Joshua Tree tour, Tampa Stadium. 12/5/87 Back of the stadium. They had a large screen midway in the field so we could see in the back. There was an annoying delay between the sound and the video. David Bowie, Glass Spider Tour, Tampa Stadium. Discovered Grolsch Beer on the way to the concert, lol. Pretty far from the concert but had glasses. Checking out this hot dancer, later on found out it was a guy with long hair. Bowie spent most of the concert in a swing above the stage. Carlos Santana, the year before he got big again with Supernatural at the Midtown Music Festival, Atlanta. Fabulous Thunderbirds were there too. Almost no one listening to Santana. He was the only reason I was there. My girlfriend at the time, current wife, was in a pissy mode because she was trying to stop smoking and didn't want to. Ended up leaving before seeing everything I wanted to. Lots of bands I wanted to see no longer around like The Cars, original Lynyrd, The Police, Tom Petty, Blondie, and even the Bee Gees. Some I was lucky to catch, like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Pink Floyd. There was one long concert I went to in the late 80s when I was babysitting some teenagers for their parents. It wasn't groups I was into. It was in Tampa Stadium. May have been Monsters of Rock with Metallica headlining. But I doubt it. I think it was hair bands like Poison and Ratt. Wish I could recall who it was.
