The Paramount editions of these movies are looking like they'll be barebones. For people who appreciate supplemental material, it matters.

Oh. And it's not up to you to determine what other people's priorities should be.
I can’t believe I have to over-explain this, but there are comments out here about not having enough money to eat or live, but breaking the bank to pick up 5+ year old releases in a panic. The same people could decide not to over share if they don’t want to get a response to it.

The only person I saw talking about selling things said that they did that a while ago, and are obviously in a different economic situation now. But, again, you don't get to determine what other people's priorities are.

I think you're taking what people post a little too literally. Of course nobody "needs" to have a title, that's just the local shorthand for really wanting something. And I don't think people literally don't have the money for these things either, in that if they buy a blu-ray their kids go hungry this month, just that if they normally budget to spend $100 per month on blu-rays, they might end up paying $150 this month and only have $50 next month.

Don't know about that. I've seen many, various "I'm broke" or references to a used or upcoming paycheck in posts before/after hauls. Whether hyperbole or not, plenty of people live on the edge with non-essential budgeting. Even Kurt Cobain, in his journals compilation that was released, had a page that showed his finances for the week or month and he spent nearly all of it on vinyl with hardly anything towards food; it was obviously before he was wealthy but goes to show how people can overspend even on casual hobby items at the expense of survival and sustenance.

I understand about being on a budget and not getting every title you want. But I've resigned myself to realize that I may not get every title I want on Blu-ray, especially if I wait too long. I didn't start buying Blu-rays until 2011 and didn't start buying Criterions until 2015. By the time I realized Chungking Express was out it was already going for exorbitant prices.

As much as I wanted to grab it (and some OOP Shout! titles then) I knew I wouldn't get it without paying those prices, which I didn't want to. I know not everybody can buy everything immediately or it might take years to finally grab a title you want or the edition you want. But that's the reality of collecting.

Got the DVD of this for about 17 dollars used. I will get the new Paramount blu so I have the film in HD and also have the Criterion extras and booklet. Not to mention a 3 disc clear DVD case to slip the blu in with the Criterion cover and discs.

marvelous idea. I planned the same thing myself. But does the Criterion Blu have artifacts and such removed and cleaned that the '21 Blu won't? Or will the '21 Blu benefit from 11 years of technology since the Criterion Blu?

Not so sure, I haven't seen the Criterion blu to make a fair assessment, but from what I heard, I am hoping the new one looks cleaner, if not the same transfer.

So the upcoming Paramount blu ray is barebones. Bummer.

There was no way they were going to port over any of the Criterion features. Still a bummer that P pulled it away from C.

Yeah...they own all of those special features. It's why we pay a premium for their releases.

Many criterion films with barely any supplements have the same price so I always wondered if it’s actually the licensing fees, and if the studios even get money from the actual sales of discs or just an up front fee they charge criterion. I don’t know how it works really

Even if this release utilizes the same HD master as the Criterion I'm still interested to see if the new encode improves on the visuals at all.

The current transfer is solid but I have a feeling the film could look leaps and bounds better than it currently does. Then again, perhaps the onslaught of UHD releases over the last year has spoiled me.

The encode on Criterion's Days of Heaven is pretty middling tbh. I never picked it up so here's hoping Paramount's is better!

Let's hope! Did anyone get this yet and if so, can you confirm the encode quality?
