If you dropped it after the first three episodes you missed out on most of its awesomeness.

Ah okay. Well, I don't feel too bad missing it. It's probably not my cup of tea anyway. I don't usually care for Mob/Gangster material and only gave it a chance because of the hype. Gave it a few weeks before cancelling HBO.

I thought they did a great job with the adaptation. It's fun hearing people that have only seen the show speculate about where the series will be going, when I know how wrong they are about so many things.

With the casting they tried to take into account the 5 year gap that was supposed to occur in the series after the 3rd book- aging the characters up to where the second half of the series would take them. Since that time gap did not end up happening, GRRM says he has had a tough time with some of the story as several of the characters are too young for what it is happening to them and what they are doing now.
In the show, he was able to rectify the age discrepancy ahead of time in the casting.

It has fantastic production values, top notch acting, and there is nothing about watching the show that made me appreciate the books any less. Totally worth buying.

I've watched the show with a group of 5-7 people who had been fans of the books beforehand, and we all liked it very much.

I just saw that the Fnac will exclusively release the first season of Game of Thrones on DVD.

No idea about a Blu Ray release but I've asked on their Facebook page.
I really hope that a Blu Ray version will be available, because that's the only one I want.

Boardwalk Empire is held in very high regard my friend. In fact, I don't know very many people who stopped watching this show. It's an excellent show that received very solid ratings throughout. Make sure you pick it up when it is released on Blu-ray, it's a terrific show.

I disagree with all the boardwalk love. I watched the whole season, and while it had superior acting and visuals it lacked in depth and drama. I was bored. No where near as good as the top flight HBO shows we have have known to love. I couldn't recommend anyone to blind buy it for more than 20 bucks.

Well obviously it's not really going to be as action-packed in every scene as the Punisher. But in all seriousness, I don't know how you could consider the following
[Show spoiler]storylines in which Nucky visits his childhood home, Chalky building a bookcase, Pearl's face getting cut open and Jimmy's revenge and later visit to the opium den, just everything about Richard Harrow, Van Alden killing his partner in the midst of the Baptists' worship, Van Alden ****ing the daylights out of Lucy,
in lacking in "depth" or "drama".

It is a superb adage to the classic gangster film genre of old though, and if you're a fan of the era or those kind of classic films, you'll love Boardwalk. If you're not though, then it's something else entirely.

I honestly think though HBO has never been better now with both Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. We're also going to see another new show, Luck, quite soon, which is also pretty promising.

Who wouldn't buy a whole season BD for $20(or less)?
Boardwalk Empire 18 nods & 1 win, not bad for a 1st season. I think it will find it's way into the "top flight HBO shows", as you put it.
And let's not forget Game of Thrones with 13 nods! Not too bad either.

Release Date: March 20, 2012.

George R.R. Martin's fantasy novel, Game of Thrones was a critical and financial success for HBO. Initially considered to be an extreme risk due to a large cast ensemble and expensive sets needed to recreate the novel's distinct look, HBO's experiment has them laughing all the way to the bank and has opened the doors for similar experiments such as adapting Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Fans looking to sate their appetite for all things Lannister and Stark, will get a brief reprise in March as the first season becomes available to take home on Blu-Ray and DVD. Set for a release of March 20th (March 7th if you live in France) you'll be able to relive all the intrigue and betrayal of the multiple Emmy Award winning series in the comfort of your own home. No word yet on what extras and special features the Blu-Ray/DVD pack will contain.

Whew, after Boardwalk Empire, I'm glad to hear this will be on BD before the second season premieres. Gives new viewers a chance to get caught up.

I've had the series on pre-order for awhile, and thus far Amazon has not posted a release date. Hopefully this one is right. I'm also on the 4th book, and love the series.

Same here, minus the reading the book part. I've had this pre-ordered since mid-July, so all I am waiting for is this to be released so I can finally check out the series.
