You can't say that till it's actually out there. I saw a comment on IGN that intrigued me and it's so damn true it's not even funny. Look how Marvel is taking such a gamble on a 'C-list' roster for a massive movie, and yet DC/WB can't even get their big guns off the damn ground properly.

Man of Steel may help to change that but life after Nolan's Batman is looking a little bleak. All signs pointing to a JLA movie and then spin-offs afterwards.

You can make any C-list set of heroes work, regardless of being C-list or not. It's ridiculous to cut things down to a core like that. You can make anything sound stupid by doing it that way. You think a talking Raccoon is dumb, but I have a feeling it'll end up the highlight of the movie. As long as the movie is done well, people will connect with the characters, no matter what species they are. Don't forget that one of the most memorable sci-fi characters of all time is a giant wookie that doesn't speak a word and just makes noises. Who thought that would go over well? I don't know, but they did it. And it worked. So let's not be trivial about this and see how it plays out before we jump to conclusions.

Plus, I didn't know anything about Thor, Iron Man or Cap America before I watched the movies. Loved them anyways.

gonna be a tough sell but in the hands of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, they'll atleast do the characters justice even if the movie isnt a "hit". I'm in!

Can't wait to see the naysayers eat a veritable buffetline of crow once this movie destroys the box office and sets up cosmic Marvel, the precursor to The Infinity Gauntlet.

The problem is that after Green Lantern (whom I would call equally a B-list super hero, at least internationally speaking), everyone is out for blood for non A-List already well known and established franchise (wether in film or comic book), and set in a not really Earth-based mythos.

Now this being said, I am glad that Marvel is willing to take risks, and look at Iron Man. After having been an A-list super hero in the 70s/ early 80s (the golden Era of J. Romita Jr), where was he when the movie was green lit?

definitely not in Limbo, but not quite the aura that he has today either I would say.

Excellent point.

Seriously, people are jumping the gun for no reason at all. And I can't understand them calling foul when they've been asking for more original fare. I know this is a comic adaptation, but it's not a typical one. I'm surprised so many aren't happy Marvel is taking a risk like this. I think most people are underestimating Marvel, and the public as well, now that Marvel Studios brand name is so strong after Avengers. Not only is it brilliant that they're going a new direction with their universe, they're taking a risk that many studios wouldn't. That alone should make people game for this.

Green Lantern wasen't too bad but they needed more off the earth . DC has to put these in a shared universe and add other cameo's or introduce other super heroes and it will add to how well a movie does . It is easy to see that Thor and even Cap were helped a lot by Iron man and the Avengers too . And now that people know them the next movies will do even better .

Marvel has reportedly selected Super's James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Hollywood Reporter claims Gunn is the only filmmaker Marvel is now talking to about directing the sci-fi team flick slated for release August 1, 2014. THR says no deal is set yet with Gunn.

Other contenders are said to have included Bring It On's Peyton Reed (who was once attached to direct Fantastic Four way back when) and Half Nelson's Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden.

"Marvel is said to like Gunn's sensibility and his ability to mix comedy elements with action and horror, a quality he shares with The Avengers director Joss Whedon," according to THR.

Gunn also wrote and directed Slither. As a screenwriter his credits includes the superhero comedy The Specials (in which he also acted), as well as Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, Tromeo and Juliet, Scooby Doo, and Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.

Not completely sure what to make of this tbh. Good news? clearly they wouldn't let anybody they don't have faith in near a project right?

Of course they have faith in him. If they pick Gunn for GOTG that means they found the best. It is Marvel after all.

Gunn strangely enough makes enough sense, if anyone can pull it off it'll be him. But, I wouldn't be suprised if he messes it up

Gunn's a very interesting choice for this. I'm looking forward to seeing this play out. I love Marvel's directing choices, they're usually very inspired.

I liked Gunn's two films Slither (which needs a blu release) and Super. Be good to see what he can do on a big budget.
