Was there anything wrong with the audio on the previous release?

I never noticed anything wrong with the original release's LPCM 2.0 audio. Not every film released before the advent of Dolby Digital surround needs to have a 5.1 remix, after all...

Needs?
Shouldn't be unless the original is offered

So long as it's lossless, it doesn't bother me that it's 2.0, although in my personal opinion, this film could totally benefit from a 5.1 mix. Reviews I'd read in regard to the previous blu-ray release stated that the audio was DD 2.0, so I was a little concerned. But since it is in fact LPCM, I'm perfectly fine with them using the same mix here.

Since there hasn't been a 5.1 mix for Flight of the Navigator created to date (even the US Disney DVD was Dolby 2.0), I don't think that Second Sight is the kind of outfit that has the resources to commission one themselves.

That's not such a bad thing though, as it's usually much better to faithfully represent the source materials provided by the licensor than to make a mess out of things by trying to "improve" them.

The most amazing thing about the original blu-ray release was that it actually presented the film properly for the first time. The Cinema Club release was absolutely terrible. You know you have a problem when the BBC airings and video releases have better picture quality than DVD.

The 2004 US DVD from Disney was actually pretty decent.

I'm sure it was, but the UK DVD release was utterly, irredeemably awful - it was literally a VHS dubbed onto disc. Second Sight's first Blu of Navigator was rather good, as was their Short Circuit. Older transfers for sure, but they were decent. Can't wait to see this new remaster though!

I stand corrected, then. I'd presume that Splendid Entertainment (the German licensee) did their own up-mix, then.

Yeah those germans pimp everything. Making 7.1 mixes and 3D versions of movies.

I'm talking about the UK which this set is aimed at.

But even the VHS version looked better somehow.

Yeah 'cause they added some DNR to it for good measure. The very worst DVD I have ever seen.

Looking good.

Navigator has massive nostalgia value for me. I can still remember my first viewing perfectly - on holiday with grandparents and we hired it from the local video-store. The whole family watched and enjoyed it. Sadly the grandparents are no longer around, but rewatching Navigator always raises a smile or two. Can’t wait for this edition

"Don’t worry! It’s the light catching the seam of the shrink wrap, not a scuff."

Got mine today from Zavvi, packaged in just a Jiffy bag, so a nice big dented corner. Yay!
