Yup, that really stupid format war didn't help (after Beta/VHS, they did it again!). While that was going on it was all boom, & then Blu-ray won & it was bust, so all uphill from there. Studios have to remaster their film catalogue in HD for TV sales (it must be really hard to sell SD movies these days), so why not make a bit more money with Blu-ray sales. CD's have been (so called) dead for the past ten years, but I'm still buying & listening to them. But I have to admit that I don't buy many Blu's, nothing like the vast number of DVD's I once bought. I hardly like any new movies, & there's not exactly a flood of great catalogue films being released.

First they tried it in the 50's, then they brought it back in the 80's and it failed again. Now they've brought it back once more. Granted the technology is better now, but it's still as gimmicky as ever. I just don't care about images popping out from the screen. And I sure as hell don't care for wearing a pair of uncomfortable 3D glasses when I'm watching something. |

![]() Virgin and Sky are commited to the growth of 3D broadcasts and the studios seem very happy also. So for those who hate 3D " don't watch it " you really have a choice on every TV i have seen...2D or 3D simples. ![]() |

A different member saw the threat and pm'd me and said member was always threatening people and acting like an arse, so I reported him. I don't take bullying lightly, even if it is just on an online forum. 'The victim' in this thread came in, steered the tread in a totally different direction that he knew would cause shit and then started crying 'poor me' when 'everyone' (all 2 of us) had a go at him. |

Did anyone actually read the article? He says this:
Quote:
Because if he had examined facts and evidence, he would see that year-to-date (through July 6th), BD $dollar sales in the U.S. are cumulatively 16% ahead of last year. Back in May, they were cumulatively 25% ahead of last year. BD now has a 29.2% dollar share of the physical media market in the U.S. Now I don't know what sales outside the U.S. are, so I don't know if he's right or wrong about the international market. Countries in Europe are experiencing a far tougher economy than even the crappy U.S. economy and unemployment, especially among young people, is much higher. Therefore, it wouldn't surprise me if BD sales are way down, especially in countries like Turkey, Greece, Spain and Italy. In the past, I frequently criticized BD sales as not growing fast enough. And I also said that if BD sales declined, the studios would lose interest. But so far this year, BD in the U.S. has done pretty damned well, although the last few weeks were lousy. Obviously in a lousy economy, the average Jane or Joe with not much extra income to spend on luxuries is going to either stream a movie or buy very inexpensive DVDs to entertain the family. But even there, the DVD market is down 10.45% year over year (in dollars) and it's down 37% since 2010, year to date. |

To some blu ray might as well never have been born let alone died.
The fact is, most blu-ray fans in England do not like what they see when they go into blockbuster or CEX. They see blu rays, but instead of being excited they kind of step back and think "no special editions, limited titles, frayed packaging". Compared to online where you get all that stuff, its a different world altogether. The shops just don't champion blu ray or offer it something unique. A movie disc comes across as something cheap and not worthy of ownership. If it were not for blu ray special packaging like steelbooks where the packaging shows some love for the movie content. Then I wouldn't be into buying movies at all. I mean the worst thing you can do to a good Will Smith movie is put Will Smiths mug shot on the cover. Its just wrong and cheap. Thats where blu ray can shine, by producing better value packaging. Better valued packaging gives a perception of quality. When you go into stores you see the packaging looks like shit.. so it hardly makes people want to spend their loved money on it. |
