Question for people who know their stuff on COMING OF AGE films. Would these two work?
WINTER'S BONE or THAT THING YOU DO??? Specially Jennifer Lawrence and GUY in TTYD storylines?

I will start ordering some Film Noir and Gangster stuff from the library. I actually just bought a 3 pack of R rated comedies at the used store, so... yes sir!
"Winter's Bone" DEFINITELY is Coming of Age IMO, really by definition. I can't really comment on "That Thing You Do" as I haven't seen it, but if Jennifer Lawrence wasn't my favorite actress, I would be using Winter's Bone in Coming of Age.

I'm starting to think we should just stick with the categories from last month but still be able to swap out some for some selected specific categories.
50 movies is a challenge by itself. But the new categories make it more fun. Honestly, I felt last month was too broad. Really didn't need to try to find any movies or go out and rent.

Since this month is a bit more of a challenge, I like the original idea of platinum, gold, silver, and bronze levels. Really, even finishing 30 movies a month is pretty impressive.

SO I mapped out MOST of the 100 movies, and yes, I am aware that it is near impossible, but I will try. 29 of the movies are either Blus or DVDs from my Unwatched pile alone, like 8 will be movies I see in theaters, and everything else will be rented from the library.

Only thin is I have STARMAN and MO' BETTER BLUES to watch and neither fit into a category, so I guess I'd have to aim for 102???

These challenges are really helping me clean up my unwatched piles btw! Thanks guys!

I'll be starting it all when I get home from work with An Action and A High School movie to start the quest.

I watched 63 movies last month, so that means I'm gonna have to really kick the doors down to hit the full 100.

I have added Wes Craven as my Director to watch, Nicole Kidman my actress...so this gets me to add The Paperboy and the Elm Street collection to my need to watch this month. Course, the Elm Street thing will also help for the 5 films from a series too.

August will be the month I just eat, sleep and dream movies!!!

Here are the titles which I will try fill up for August. If I am successful at filling each cateogry, I will add some more from the optional list.

High school/college
Sports movies
Gangsters
Revenge
R-Rated Comedy
Coming of age
Psychological thriller
Dark humor
Movies rated <10% on rotten tomatoes*:d
Action movies (The more cheese the better)

I am changing Film-Noir with Movies rated <10% on rotten tomatoes*:d since I am not sure I will be able to get hold of titles for this genre, at least based on what netflix has under this genre. Also I wanted to try to only watch films that I haven't seen before. The films that fall under this category which that I am able to get I have seen before.

I will edit my second post on page 1 when I add movies that I have watched.

I'm sure I'll fail just as disastrously as I did last month (especially w/ school starting on the 26th), but I'll give this a whirl anyway. My categories:

[Show spoiler]High school/college
1. American Pie 2 (2001) (6/10) (viewed: August 1st)

3.
4.
5.

Sports movies
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Gangsters
1. End of Watch (2012) (8.5/10) (viewed: August 12th)
2.
3.
4.
5.

Revenge
1. God Bless America (2011) (7/10) (viewed: August 7th)
2.
3.
4.
5.

R-Rated Comedy
1. Knocked Up (2007) (7/10) (viewed: August 6th)
2. 21 Jump Street (2012) (7.5/10) (viewed: August 6th)

3.
4.
5.

Psychological thriller
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Biopics/Historical
1. The Company Men* (2010) (7.5/10) (viewed: August 3rd/4th)
2. Fruitvale Station (2013) (8/10) (viewed: August 13th)
3.
4.
5.

*- It might be a bit of a stretch calling 'The Company Men' a biopic, but it does cover a topic that will be historical in the future (The Great Recession).

I started my month off with a thud. Watched Identity Thief. and here I didnt think McCarthy could possibly be in a worse movie and play a more unlikeable character than in The Heat, much less in the same year! 1/5.

Right, sorry I'm failing to follow, are we choosing our own categories?

And it's still 50 films, right?

50 is the challenge, but you can shoot for less:
60 Movies - Platinum
50 Movies - Gold
40 Movies - Silver
30 Movies - Bronze

Look at the first post, it has the ten default categories, you then have the option of swapping up to two out in favor from the optional category listed.

The biggest problem I'm having after just two films, and it's a problem I have when going to look for any film to watch, is settling on just what the hell to watch. I've watched 2 comic book films back to back today so I'll probably leave that genre for a few days at least... now what to go for...
