Need proof? Check the opened up "beauty" shot of the packaging they released (it is right there in the very first post of this thread)...it is actually opened to Series 5, and it is three discs (with the same number and episode listings per disc as the remastered version from the 1-7 set)... Plus, just check the disc count....it is a 16 disc set, and the breakdown will be as such: Discs 1 to 4 - Series 5 (discs 1, 2, 3 are the episodes, disc 4 is just DW Confidential) Discs 5 to 8 - Series 6 (discs 5, 6, 7 are the episodes, disc 8 is just DW Confidential) Discs 9 to 12 - Series 7 Disc 13 - The Day Of The Doctor Disc 14 - The Time Of The Doctor Disc 15 - An Adventure In Time And Space Disc 16 - exclusive bonus disc The original 1080i release of Series 5 was six discs, there is no way it is being used in this set.... |

I find it odd you're enough of an audiophile to mind the original release's track but not mind the slowed down audio from the new "remasters." Not saying that to make fun of you, just making sure you know about it.

... but they were pitch corrected. No one should notice any issues with the re-releases audio wise. So you do end up having the main factor be that the quality of the audio used is better because it is Master Audio and there is less compression for it.

Some people definitely notice slowed down audio, even if it's pitch-corrected.

How does a six disc set become four? Going from 1080i to 1080p reduces the number of discs? On a 1080p TV, can you really notice the difference between a Blu Ray disc at 1080p versus 1080i? I have all the Matt Smith years on Blu ray and would hate to rebuy them. I have the 50th anniversary special and the Christmas episode on standalone versions. I just wonder if it's really worth re buying these? I would like the David Tennant and Chris Ecclestone years on individual Blu Ray sets. |

I think the original DVD and Blu-ray releases of S5 had the same number of discs, and each Blu-ray had the same content as the corresponding DVD.
The original S5 Blu-rays had plenty of room for more content (a BD-50 can hold well over 4 hours of HD content and still look amazing), but it was probably easier for BBC Video to just mirror the DVDs. From the BBC Blu-rays I have owned/seen, BBC Video is now using space more efficiently on Blu-rays rather than simply mirroring the DVD content, as seen with the new 1080p versions of S5 and S6. Another example is Orphan Black -- S1 and S2 are each on 3 DVDs, but only 2 Blu-rays. |

It's also better compression, which has come a long way in the last 5 years. Though I wouldn't be surprised if these remasters have a lower bitrate, at least to a small degree. Whether they really look better is a toss-up from what I have read. No one who says they do really gives a reason.
Personally I'd buy this set for packaging and the bonus disc if I were buying it for anything. |

Don't worry, I know. I am more of a general home theatre enthusiast, and look for the optimum presentation-I care less about alterations and more about true quality. Som although it is annoying that it can't be shown at its true frame rate, I prefer the slowdown to a loss of video and audio quality.

I really wish amazon would price match the $99 that best buy has it for. I have a gift card I would like to use. Tried calling them but was denied like always. I still don't get how people get them to price match anything. I submitted the lower price still made no difference.

I have always been denied when trying to price match with amazon. No loss to me. Amazon lost my sale by denying it. I bought it at best buy instead. I just enjoyed the crap the customer service representative gave me about the market prices. Not buying it because amazon is just choosing to be very selective about what they will price match anymore.

![]() Here's a video. Sorry it came out vertically. YouTube is supposed to be rotating it, but I don't know how long that will take... Also, I mysteriously say "Seventh Doctor" instead of "Eleventh Doctor" at one point... Last edited by jaredofmo; 11-05-2014 at 12:29 AM. |

For anyone interested in this set, at importcds.com you can currently get it for $87.62 plus shipping if you enter the code SAVE10 in your Shopping Cart. At that price, I decided to bite.
