It was when we started TNG that she officially fell in love with Trek and Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future for humanity.

In this day in age where we are constantly being bombarded with information, mostly negative, people are looking for an escape and they may happen to stumble upon Star Trek (perhaps a rerun on Sci Fi or some other channel) and become immediately drawn to that vision of the future, where humanity no longer wages war over religion, money, oil, etc.. and instead works together as a race to create a better tomorrow for everyone to enjoy.

I know there are many times when I am watching TNG and I wish I was there, on that ship, living that life that seems so far away from the chaos that is our world presently.
My wife is 25 (9 years younger than me) AND she is Japanese. I introduced her to Star Trek TOS on Blu-ray and she really enjoyed it. I can't wait to get the Blu-ray set of Star Trek TNG to get her into my favourite TV series of all time. TOS is good, but TNG really takes the Trek universe to a whole new level.

Well, until you marry one of 'em, then all they'll do is ride your A.

I love both TOS & TNG, but I've always enjoyed TNG more...

Always said this was my fave series... have preordered every season so far, and also preordered the all the stand alone two-parters.

This will be the same, both are preordered.

My only fear stems from the possibility that there will be a really cool box set with an interesting, unique case that will only be available by purchasing, well, the box set...

You are of course entitled to your opinion. It's a 50 year long show with a massive worldwide following however, so I don't think I'm weird for liking it.

Agreed yes. If they are going to remaster DS9 & VOY they need to do it now before the team goes. Once there disbanded as you say the chances of seeing DS9/VOY done are slim to none :/

For me I always knew about Star Trek 'playing in the background' but I never paid much attention to it. But when Voyager came out...BAM I was hooked on and ever since then I went back and appreciated the rest of the Star Trek series. My point is if it wasn't for Voyager I never would have got into Star Trek I think. Ill always respect that show and I hope CBS can respect it back in giving it to us in HD now please

Another huge fan of Voyager here. That was going to be my next avatar after this one. Heck, now that hope seems to be fading, I might as well change at some point anyway....

Here's to you: Sisko and Crew and Janeway and Crew. To me you'll always be as good as TOS and TNG, even though they are treating you like second-class citizens.

I almost wonder if there's something to it: "Sure, now that we've gotten to the African-American Captain, and the woman who's a Captain, just keep those people in standard def. That's good enough for them...."

I am really looking forward to the 7th season of The Next Generation and will, as with all the other seasons, buy it the first day it's available. Heck, I might even get the AGTs "movie" too depending on the special features.

Over 3.5 million watched the 50th anniversary episode on BBC America in the US. The recent premier had over 2.5 million. In the UK, they get around 6-7 million per regular episode but that's a staggering 30% of homes watching according to their posted numbers. I was at a con in Philly in June. Matt Smith and Karen Gillan had over 5,000 people for their talk (based on how many the room held plus standing room). Their autograph and photo lines were almost never ending, but totally worth the money to meet them (but Karen never seems to smile for her photo op photos for done reason, but she was really sweet in the autograph line and Smith was great both places and really excited to meet fans). In Chicago, their talk recently had over 2,500 based on what I read as the room they had was a bit smaller (but stadium style which I'd have liked in Philly which was not).

Doctor Who will never be as big here as in the UK but it is getting much more popular. I for one am a fan who came aboard with the reboot in the mid 2,000's. I admit, the classic episodes were fairly boring, at least the ones I've seen, with little action. And I'm still adjusting to the current Doctor but it's only been a few episodes so give him time. I didn't like Smith either early on but by the time he left I really wanted him to stick around longer.

I love Trek too. Many don't. Some think Star Wars is just for geeks and nerds. Guess I am one as I like it. All I know is, worldwide SyFy phenomenon's are rarely wrong. So excuse me as I leave to go watch a 900 year old alien fight some evil robots.

Your statement just reminded me when I watched that Special Interview on one of the TNG cast reunions. Marina Sirtis makes a point and says 'WE WERE THE FLAGSHIP series' in other words our show was better urs sucked....
I don't think that was fair to say and alittle disrespectful to DS9 & VOY.

Perhaps TNG had the fans it did cause it was the first remake to come back after so long. How do we know if it was DS9 or VOY that was made first instead of TNG that the tables might be turned around then???

She might have been implying that TNG was better (or maybe her point was just that it was more popular and important to the franchise, which it is) but I don't believe she was saying "the other shows sucked".

Spider-Man is the flagship character of Marvel, dosen't mean he is the greatest hero that Marvel has.
*Spider-Man used to be the greatest hero, in my opinion, before the first reboot from around 2000.

It could be like that as you say.
I don't know perhaps its just the feeling I got when I heard her say that. Could be just in my thoughts I guess..

I love TNG. And Marina Sirtis is a good actress and created, in Troi, a memorable Trek character.

But I read what she said just the way you did. It seemed like she was somewhat dismissive of the other Star Trek shows after TNG.

I actually like TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager all equally. They're all different, obviously, but just as good imho. But I realize I'm one of the very few Trek fans to feel that way.

I'd put Enterprise down at a lower level, although the last season was mostly quite good.

Agreed. I too think she was perfect for the show & I always liked the character of troi as well.

YES!! You summed it up better than the way I said it earlier. That's the exact feeling I got off from her.

I have all the series on VHS then DVD now half on Blu-ray.... I love Star Trek
Exactly there all different and that's a good thing otherwise they would have been boring. I like them all in a different way but I will always have my preferences though

As for Enterprise I think the first 2 Seasons held it back. IMO Season 3 & 4 should have really been Season 1 & 2.

What is it about Star Trek that the shows only really start to get good in their 3rd year? TNG, DS9 and VOY were all lucky they had 7 seasons to improve. As usual, ENT is the black sheep.
