Maybe not. I only know I never played AC1, never had a PS2, and started on AC2 on PS3. Just assumed it predated PS3. Doesn't change the challenge of attracting new gamers to episode six of a series, though.

Oh No it didn't... It was original series in 2007, I think they just got lost in the quick cash of punching these games out every year... And I agree at this point the original arch is beyond lost and convoluted that it would be an even bigger "WHAT?" moment. If they suddenly tried to bring it all back lol.

The closer this series gets to modern times, the more interested I am. Exploring colonial times was interesting, but all of those puffy wool wigs and frilled clothing styles, muskets that take about 1 minute to fire realistically... Not the setting I want to explore, though the buildings and scenery usually look good.
On the other hand, if AC entered the Western setting, like Red Dead Redemption, and even this Industrial Revolution setting as with Syndicate, they'll gain my attention. The late 1800's. Syndicate is the first time I'm actually interested in buying an Assassin's Creed game, after only renting part 1 and breathing a big sigh of relief for only renting it. Ancient times was interesting though whenever he got hurt, that non stop beeping drove me impatient. Beep, beep, beep, etc... I know he was hurt and needed healing, but don't remind me every second about it. I don't know who made that design decision... I did buy ACIII for less than $20 brand new, but again, not the setting I enjoy aside from the great environments. |

Revelations is the weakest link in the Ezio trilogy, but superior to AC3, with it's dour, boring protagonist. Black Flag is superb, and AC: Unity on pc finally patched and debugged isn't far behind, if short.

Black Flag is my all time favorite AC game. Syndicate looks fun though. |

AC II is my favorite of the series still I think. I remember seeing the trailer for the first AC and I was like holy shit.. I want to play that. The first one wasn't bad, but they hadn't quite figured it all out yet, so it was just kind of meh, but you could see the potential. Then AC II hit and it was awesome. Brotherhood was also really good, Revelations was so so, AC III was pretty bad. It wasn't until Black Flag that they really made another great AC game. I didn't like the ship stuff at first, but it grew on me and the game was just all around great. AC Unity ... buggy mess at first, after they got the bugs ironed out it wasn't all that bad, but still not great. Looking forward to this installment though as I am every year.

Less focus on the 4 player and online chests, and more on the single player experience. Which is what this series has always been about. |

![]() Yeah, I bailed after being disappointed with AC1, but then decided to give ACIII a try and it was mostly cutscenes with minimal gameplay for many of the missions. They'd show a long cutscene, then you go find someone for a minute's time, then another long cutscene, then go find and talk to another guy for a minute, another long cutscene, find a lady in the snow, another lengthy cutscene, etc. ![]() Finally, well into the game when the more in depth missions started, it was decent, though the game held the player's hand a lot with the balancing on trees and branches, when to duck, when to jump, climb, etc. Ubisoft's Watch_Dogs thankfully gave more control back, with a leap over button to decide when to do stuff so it wasn't all automatic. In Syndicate, though it's been done before, I like the addition of the grappling hook for climbing and sliding from roof to roof. That looks like fun for this series. |

Hmmm....been staying away from Assassin's Creed since Black Flag (which i love). Wouldn't touch Unity. Loved the first game and had a hard time playing the other ones on my PS3 (don't know if the system is crudding out because i have a hard time controlling anything, even on AC3 which I quit very early).
Got a PS4 and played some of Black Flag. Loved it! So since I have a coupon, may bite the bullet and get this one at Gamestop (necklace looks cool as well. Definitely not a deal breaker but I've always wanted an AC necklace and this fits the bill since the one I like has been sold out forever). |
