Didn't Paramount co-finance the restoration through JJ Abrams's Bad Robot production company? Can't think of a worse company to handle this than Paramount. Well, worse than Image, I mean. I'm glad that rumor that Image was releasing the franchise isn't true (or doesn't appear to be true any longer). It stands to reason that if Arrow has acquired the first film, that they may have also grabbed the rest, including Part II, which would make more sense. Fingers crossed for a box set!

They have shot down Phantasm repeatedly - Id say Arrow is more likely.
My thought was Arrow for a UK release, Image for a US release, including the box set of the 4 films. One thing I recall was Image waiting for approval to license Phantasm II from Universal or waiting until Screams release goes OOP |

I'm kind of worn out on the first "Phantasm," but numbers 3 and 4 is what I put in when I watch a "Phantasm" flick. Part 3 is basically a remake of part 2, but without the studio interference that part 2 got, and the larger budget, too. 4 is great for the Tall Man origin scenes alone.

So this was posted today from Variety
"Phantasm,” the classic 1979 horror movie by U.S. cult director Don Coscarelli has been freshly restored largely thanks to J.J. Abrams, who is a longtime fan of the series. Pic is being sold as “Phantasm: Remastered” at Berlin’s EFM mart. Coscarelli, whose more recent titles include “Bubba Ho-tep” and “John Dies at the End” is licensing rights at EFM to the entire five film “Phantasm” series including the recently completed “Phantasm Ravager” through his Starway International shingle. http://variety.com/2016/film/news/be...ve-1201700553/ |
