Default The Phantasm Collection (1979-2015)

UPDATE: The press release from Well Go USA:

Quote:
Phantasm: Remastered will screen in cinemas on Sept. 24 as part of the first Art House Theater Day. Phantasm: Ravager will be released in theaters and via digital HD on Oct. 7. Phantasm: Remastered and HD restorations of both 1994’s Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead and 1994’s Phantasm IV: Oblivion will also be released on cable and digital platforms that day (although plans aren’t finalized, EW has been told 1988’s Phantasm II will be available to view, as well). Later in the year, the films will be released individually on Blu-ray and DVD as well as in a collector’s edition set.

Also confirmed in the video below...check 9:05 mark.

Confirmed by the man himself - Don Coscarelli in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly

It should be released in first half of 2016. Hopefully the sequels too!

Quote:
That aside, will there be a Blu-ray and DVD release of the restored film?
Oh, yeah, absolutely. The beautiful part about it nowadays is that fans have home theaters which are almost as good as real theaters. With the technology, they can see it in this beautiful — I mean, I guess you can say that the Tall Man’s balls are a lot more shiny. [Laughs.] I don’t know if you can put that in, but it’s true!
Quote:
So, is the restoration completely finished?
It was a little bit of a work in progress, what we showed. It’s going to be finished in the next month or so. Of course, the little downside is that I had to stop work on the fifth and final Phantasm — Phantasm: Ravager (which is being directed by David Hartman). But both of those movies are now pretty much done. We’ll looking for a first- or second-quarter release for both of them.
Quote:
This is a meticulous 4K restoration from the original camera negative, which we went back and scanned, and, maybe even more exciting, a brand new 5.1 audio soundtrack. It really sounds great.

It's good to see something more 'official' on the subject and an actual blu-ray confirmation I wonder who will release it? I'm looking at you Scream Factory

I'd be happy with Scream Factory or Arrow. Just hope 3 and 4 are released as well.

Hoping to get a box set of all the films. Hopefully that is what will happen.

Is it just me, or do those "restoration" pictures look like ass?

Hopefully Abrams added a bunch of lens flares to go along with the excessive DNR.

Great news! I still want 3 and 4, but the first is by far my favorite of the series, so I'll at least be satisfied for the time being.

And the ball shooting first instead of Joey.

I'm hoping it is Scream who puts out the box set.

I can understand disappointment with 4, but I don't get why 3 is hated so much. 3 is much closer to 2 in tone and action than 2 is to 1. Basically, I don't get how people can like the second and hate the third. Is it the kid actor? The chick with nunchucks?

I'm guessing it's racism against the black woman!

I don't like it cause it feels like a TV movie, I can't even remember 2 though, maybe that one's equally bad! I just have a vague memory of liking 2 but not 3 when I saw them on Joe Bob's Monstervision a million years ago, and then I saw 3 again more recently and it confirmed my dislike. I've seen the first one a few times and quite like it, though. I'll have to pick this up as long as it's not in a box set.

I read Paramount is releasing it, as part of J.J. Abrams helping finance the restoration (his company typically works with Paramount).
