I'm a bit strapped for funds at the moment. Is Indicator going to releases the BDs seperatly in the future, so I'd just miss out on the book?

Probably. There's no way that the films are going to be exclusive to this set. I imagine that they will rerelease in some form of budget triple pack, as I can't see the sequels selling fantastically individually.

That said, the box set is 'limited' to 6000 units, so it may not sell out for a good while yet, and they won't release a budget version until that happens.

My Amazon order still showing £42.99. Unless they've changed their price Powerhouse had it for £41 something so not much in it.

Unless this set is a real stormer I can't see Powerhouse reissuing anything but the remastered 7th Voyage.
I would expect that with 6000 units sold the number of interested collectors would be almost exhausted - that is judging from the speed at which some limited edition titles across the market have sold

Doesn't look great according to caps-a-holic... http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=10482&d2=5399&c=2203

Indicator has more digital nastiness, has signs of EE and contrast can appear blown in places. I haven't a clue which would have the more accurate grade.

Are Indicator using an older master by mistake?

???
From those, I am preferring the new one. It's brighter, more colorful, and has more detail (tiger fur). Even though it also has some whites blown out (candles) and some halos (cliff edge against sky).

Cheers

Yeesh, looks like Indicator may have used the old DVD master judging by those comparisons.

The TT looks a lot better and much more organic. I believe it was a 4K scan (with restoration work done in 2K) from Sony.

Can't agree with there being more detail on the Indicator disc, I'm seeing significantly less detail with more digital artifacts. Think that the perceived detail on the Indicator that some may see is just a trick caused by artificial sharpening, which would explain the halos.

The image is identical to the German disk, and both that one and the Australian disk were produced at least two years after the TT edition.

I'm no expert, and I can agree about marginally less information in the frame, but I don't agree with it looking worse than TT, for instance compared this capture from Twilight Time and from Indicator.

The halos appear to also be on the TT, it's just that the contrast is up on the Indicator (or down on the TT, so they are better hidden).

I`m not sure but I only see a brighter, more colorful image that is slightly cropped compared to the TT release. I guess that I am glad that I`m not seeing any other problems with the images. Otherwise, not sure about the slight color timings as to which one is correct. I remember seeing the movie in the theater as a teenager but I just don't remember. I might have some older magazine with pictures and could look at those to see if the movie was a bright as this or which color timing might have been closer. But, those are in storage and not sure I want to go through the hassle. I won't be cancelling my order unless something major comes up. Still can't wait to see what 7th Voyage will look like. Also, I just checked out the Golden Voyage of Sinbad and I think it looks the same as the TT master. Maybe they used the TT master for that release. http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=104...63&i=2&l=0&a=0

I think Indicator looks a good bit better than TT. Colours are more vibrant and detail is much clearer (see the screen grab of the boat and look at the grain of the wood for an example). Honestly to me it looks like the TT has a darkness issue.

My only experience of this film is a crappy SD showing on Film4 (maybe TCM), so I'm not sure how it compares, but I think the brighter colours are more in tune with the exotic locations of the film.

Tiger looks far better than the TT to me, the TT looks dull & flat (just look at the tiger in cap 8). Golden Voyage looks identical, obviously the same master.

I always think of these movies as being bright and colourful. With that, other issues aside, my money is on the Indicator version being closer to what was intended.

I was only 10 when I saw Eye of the Tiger at the cinema though

Yeah, Golden Voyage is clearly the same master.

Eye of the Tiger might have the more colourful grade (the TT is very much a "modern" grade IMO), but for me that doesn't negate the other issues with it I can see. Would have been far better to use the TT master and regrade the colour a little to make it brighter.

I'm not so sure they are there on the TT? The EE just seems to be doing what EE does on the Indicator.

This 2nd cap shows up the digital looking nasties of the Indicator quite nicely if that's the right word for it... This isn't more detail, it's digital enhancements that take away the film look and genuine fine detail. Just look at how ruinous is it to the hair dress thingy as well as the massive great halo around the flame.
