Raunchy comedies have been flopping so hard. Being awful awful movies doesn't help.

Good. That's what they get for using the terrible and unoriginal super villain brother angle. It was dumb in Austin Powers Goldmember and Spectre too.

Well, it could be awful depending on what the drop-off is next weekend. They must have spent a fortune on marketing, as I see that damn commercial like every 5 minutes!

If that's a flop then pretty much every blockbuster is a flop.

It could be awful if it only makes $1M each upcoming weekend for the next few weeks. But that won't happen, so it'd be foolish to call this a bust when there's still no other family competition until what.....The Emoji Movie at end of July? I'm not even counting Spider-Man Homecoming since young children and parents will still be choosing DM3.

It's pretty bad, sure no one at Universal will be breaking a sweat, but considering how popular the films are, the numbers do demonstrate a decline in interested.

It does indeed, but Minions was practically a freebie in that it's pretty darned rare for a spin-off to become the #1 grossing movie in any particular franchise, never mind become one of only 30-odd movies that ever cracked the $1BN mark worldwide.

Universal made beaucoup dollars on that flick and even though DM3 may well underperform in light of the incredible success of DM2 and Minions - like several other former franchise favourites have done this summer - it's still got dat sweeeeet $80M budget so even if it pulls in "only" $600M worldwide it will have cleared far more money than Pirates or Transformers with a similar gross.

Fox would've loved a $72M opening for Covenant.
