If you didn't, could you please enlighten me on the merits of this film?

Let me just say, I don't think it's a bad movie just not great.
I thought it was a good movie, not a great one, but a good one. The Merits on this film? Well I think the biggest merit is it's a pretty good Sci-fi Space Film, which have been lacking for quite sometime. How long has it been since a good Sci-fi came out? Other than Serenity, it's been Years.

This movie was a good rental. (Thank you Netflix!) I was entertained for the first viewing but I don't think it's a movie I'd ever watch again though. Looked good on Blu though.

It was somewhat polarising, you either loved it or you didn't.
It hit a note with me, I loved it!

I think it is a must have in collection, if people want to see sci fi movie, this will be suitable movie for a movie night! it replaces event horizon until E.H is released on Blu-ray. No sci fi movie beat E.H movie! Its fantastic movie!

One of my favorite sci-fi movies, perhaps ever. Just my opinion.

Well I have given up on the reviewer for this site! He recently gave TROY a 3.5 and Hairspray a 5 out of 5. In reviews Troy tied under siege and several other sub-par movies with a 3.5. HAHA he gave beowulf and grendel a 5 as well. How he gave that movie a better rating than troy I will never know

I also liked this movie, not sure if i want to buy it anytime soon at full price but ill pick it up when its on sale for about $15 or so or BOGO. Its worth a rent at first, just to make sure youll like it. I also dont like the rating scale of 1 to 5, i felt it was much better when it was 1 to 10 gives you more of a idea of how good or bad a movie is.

I think he gave Kingdom of Heaven DC 3 stars I think. I look at PQ and AQ in reviews, but even that is opinion and also varies with the equipment used.

I can easily say I am glad I gave this movie a rental first.
It was decent, not great.

I watched Sunshine with four other friends last night--all 5 of us had never seen it before. I had read the reviews that basically said that they loved it until the final act. I sort of agree with it. I mean, the story could've gone in a whole different direction. Pretty much everyone said the same thing: they enjoy the first half but the extreme effects and lack of clear explanation (which I can overlook) really bothered them.

I think it takes a certain type to enjoy the lack of explanation etc...
I've always enjoyed concocting theories to explain on screen stuff as logically as possible, and can think of a way to bring the end to a satisfying close for me.
I also recall various interviews from before the movie and indeed from the special features in which they filled out some of the background as to why the sun was dieing etc so that may have helped the story along for me as opposed to people just diving straight into the movie.
ymmv.

First of all the same reviewer that reviewed Hairspray did not review the others mentioned.

Second, and I don't know why people do not understand this, reviews are wholly subjective in terms of the movie itself, and even reviewing the technical specs is not wholly objective. I rate the movie based on how much I liked it, how much replay value it has for me, how well it was made, how well it was acted, how well it was directed, and so on. I pay no attention to what other reviewers or critics have to say about a movie. It will be a rare case where everyone shares the same opinion on a movie. I'm sorry you don't like my reviews. I will not be changing my style or criteria.

I'm not saying you must agree with me. I'm simply saying that your mileage may vary. This is why we have the user comments section. So please, review away.
