The funding costs are a steelbook, which always sells anyway and I guess their big cost is producing their own exclusive extras.
For UHD discs, the biggest cost is the actual physical replication of the disc, which is much higher than regular blu-ray. That's why only the big studios have embraced the format so far (and only for new releases and the biggest catalog titles).

Hopefully that price comes down fairly quickly. I hate the idea of 4K remasters going unreleased on UHD simply because smaller labels like Criterion, Arroow, Shout, etc. can't justify the extra expense.

Should we really hope that? That would mean we have to update hundreds of discs at some point. I always speculated that Bluray will be the last physical medium those lesser known genre movies are released on.

Stretch Goal : if with your support this campaign reaches £25,000 we will make this Limited Edition even more special! We'll add an additional disc of bonus features by filming and editing our own extra features and/or sourcing and reviving long-disappeared iconic documentaries on Dario Argento - and more depending on funding and production budget!
Would be nice, but I doubt they are going to reach that.

They got £15,000 in like 24 hours. With essentially a full month still to go, I think they can do another £10,000, even with the inevitable slow down.

Yes, but as noted they've already gone in on the 4K disc with SPA, TLE or whoever, so it's still a little bit cheeky to be seen to crowdfund something that they've already paid for at the mastering level (which itself can't have come cheap).

Someone earlier in the thread kept saying that the Italian disc may yet not be the UK one despite its English menus and Cult Films ident because of these potential exclusive bonus features that were mooted for the CF 4K, to which I said they're not gonna re-author the 4K disc all over again (because it has been done, make no mistake). Lo and behold, the exclusive new extras will be on a separate bonus disc so there's no need to re-author the 4K disc, or the BD for that matter.

If they sold all the remaining steelbooks in the first offer, they will hit the stretch goal

If they add some more T-shirts this will help

One of their answers to a comment regarding the T-shirts:

Thank you for your support. Those T-shirts flew away far more quickly than we anticipated. We are thinking of adding more, please stay tuned.
So there's still hope for that.

If it comes down to it I might even consider backing the Shameless bundle perk (I'll probably find SOME way of getting rid of the duplicates ) in addition to the Early Bird perk.

I saw the 4K version on the big screen yesterday and was a little undeewhelmed.

The print was out of focus a couple of times.
Also I had hoped for an improvement in contrast.
I wonder if this release will use this print. ..
Still really great to experience the classic on the big screen!

I hope that other companies might do these types of fund raising, but it really depends on the movie, I would love to see Lucio Fulci's Zombie get the 4K UHD treatment.
That does not make any sense to me. They've already spent the money making a 4K restoration. How much more would it cost to put it on a UHD disc, especially if they can just do the crowd funding option Cult Films is doing? Is Synapse just being willfully obtuse about this, or are they going to wait until their $60 steelbooks sell out and THEN announce a 4K UHD version for next year or the year after?

I'd expect a UHD for that price which is why I'm going nowhere near Synapse's version.

I have to agree here, their (Synapse) price actually is a bit more than any other steel they released and a 6000 print run. If their's was 4k also I would of bought it day one. I'm still on the fence with their's tbh. But knowing they will have a regular edition out down the line gives me some relief as well, because I do want both (TLE and Synapse) of this film. I'm super curious as to how their's will look and If I will like it.

I was late to the party, so I imagine their will easily be more in the next few days. Here's hoping the goal gets reached. I'm being optimistic and think it will easy, with a week to spare.

Amazing to see this indiegogo thingy do so well, especially considering there's relatively cheap Italian alternatives already available to import, kinda reknews your faith in cult film fandom here in the UK. I'd have jumped at the £29 tier if I hadn't already blown a crapload of money on the upcoming Synapse BD, but I'll definitely be going for the regular dual format release of this in the HMV sale!

Why on Earth wouldn't you review it? I'm a complete noob when it comes to Suspiria anyway, it's best left to someone who knows what they're talking about re: giallo and whatnot.

General consensus is that the Synapse will be worth waiting for, but currently any of the TLE restorations (Italy, Germany), although having a different colour scheme from what we've publicly seen of the Synapse release, are also great.

DON'T get the UK version from Nouveaux Pictures as the brightness is totally off, apparently.

WOAH!

There is currently no general consensus as to which of the two 4K restorations is/will be best
