well it's a crowd funder but at least someone is giving these 4k masters UHD discs so hope this reaches it's goal

shame Arrow, Criterion and other labels can't do the same with the 4k masters they have

An important question: will this have HDR? The 4K Italian version did not and I believe it was limited to the Rec. 709 color gamut as well. If that’s the case the only upgrade here, in terms of quality, would be additional resolution and possibly better compression, but not better colors or contrast.

Also, have there been any details regarding audio? The Synapse version will feature the original 4.0 soundtrack. It’d be great if this one could include it, or at least a version of that, even if it’s encoded in stereo surround.

The crowd funder is on Indiegogo rather than Kickstarter. So that means no goal although there is the target. The fund raiser gets to keep the money even if only £1 pledged they don’t need to hit the target. It also means that your card is charged when you make the pledge as it’s a firm commitment rather than at the end of the fund raising period.

I presume this is because they said in the main Suspira thread here that they will press the number of UHDs they need based upon pledges so no minimum or maximum.

The Italian uhd includes a decent stereo English track which wasn't on the Italian bluray. Plus it has the Cultfilm logo so apart from some additional extras it will be interesting to see how different this disk will be.

I've never done this before so please forgive me for my ignorance here, but how do I pre-order this? I thought it's best to ask now than to be shrieking in despair when it goes live.

Click on the link in OP and register your interest.

Once it goes live you'll get a nudge and you can decide which 'perk' to go for.

Then pay your contribution and forget about it for at least six months

Is this from the same master as the upcoming American steelbook? I may have to go for this, instead; like the idea of getting a UHD for this one.

No. It's a different take on the restoration from a separate company. Synapse did the US remaster, TLE Films in Germany did the Euro version.

No it’s from the same source as the Italian UHD, and is almost certainty the same disk as that is English friendly. You can find comment on the Italian disk in the Suspiria thread here or elsewhere online.

Excuse me if I've gotten the wrong idea, but why would any BD watcher/collector want to fund a DVD release, even as part of a dual format release?

I'm pretty sure that people without Blu-Ray players are welcome to fund it as well. Some people who are DVD only will buy dual-format releases as a way of future proofing, others buy them if there's no individual DVD release. I'm sure there are plenty of people who haven't made the jump to BD yet who may want this release, and so they may also be putting money in to it.

I am from Germany, what would be the added value over the German 4K disc? I dont have a UHD Player (yet).

- Exclusive Extras
- a Steelbook packaging (whose final design is not known yet)

Something else?

Well, the extras are listed in the first post.

I'm not sure about this when I think about it. Usually with such campaigns you are paying up front to bring something to the market that isn't available.

I mean, if People don't want the steelbook just buy the German BD. It sounds like it is going to be the same scan etc. Doesn't it?

At this stage, I suspect that the amount of people still on DVD only that would be monitoring and pursuing a new DVD release of Suspiria (which would be future proofed anyway, so long as BD players can replay DVDs) is a tiny amount. Even just in relation to BD market.

Dual Format editions are surely meant to tempt people to eventually adopt the new format and upgrade their equipment with a compatible disc all ready to play on it.
