I'm over box sets, steelbooks, special packaging... all that. If I win lotto I'll rethink that. Just hoping they release these individually, bonus for a fair price or I'll wait til BF.

I feel the same way, unless the only to own the film is to buy a box set. I bought The Mummy Trilogy just to get the first two films. That set was more than worth the $40, except for the horrendous case itself.

This is one of those series where I have purchased VHS,DVD, bluray on two different occasions. If the price is right, I will purchase on 4k. The first movie for sure.

I just was the original, I couldn’t care less for the others. I want them to treat the first one with the upmost of care.

I didn't mind Men In Black only being offered in a set as it was priced cheaply at $30-35. If Jurassic Park I-III are offered for that price, I'll bite.

Otherwise individual releases should be the norm, like with The Mummy where I only bought the first in 4k.

That would pretty stupid for them to do, because they could make much more money with 4K remastered Full HD Blu-rays compared to the UHD Blu-rays.

The Full HD Blu-ray market is much bigger than the UHD market, and the most customers don't want to spent much money for UHD Blu-rays and are fine with the Full HD players and panels.

Further, authoring and pressing costs are not so high compared to the money they could make. Look at Universal remastered Blu-rays of Gladiator, Apollo 13 and Spartacus.

And why a bonus in the 4K set? That makes no sense. Individual remastered releases like Sony does for years, for example the current announcement of The Dark Crystal.

On the other hand, with remastered Blu-rays a Studio could make money with Blu-rays and UHD Blu-rays. Look at the market, the DVD is not dead after all these years. With streaming in mind, the chances for UHD Blu-rays as a new medium are very bad. If they think they can force the majority of consumers to upgrade on UHD, they are being naive.

A remastered Blu-ray for a decent price is okay, but the majority doesn't want to buy expensive new TVs, players and UHD discs. Sony understands that and makes money with both, remastered Full HD Blu-rays for the majority of the Blu-ray consumers and UHD with native 4K resolution and HDR for the enthusiasts with a big wallet.
The majority of consumers never jumps on the new format, it's too expensive. Further the catalogue is dead (from the viewpoint of the major labels), look how many films get sublicensed worldwide on small independent labels like Arrow Video, Shout Factory, Kino Lorber, Criterion, Capelight Pictures, Turbine Medien. In Europe the situation is much worse, Paramount and Fox haven't released catalogue titles for years, like Trading Places, War of the Roses, etc.

Ummm catalogue titles aren’t dead. I think that’s a little extreme. Sure some labels are stepping back but others are still putting out solid stuff like Sony, WB and Universal. That’s why the independent labels are doing so well and frankly in some cases they are doing a better job than the studio would have. I personally think it’s an exciting time for home theatre enthusiasts because we’re getting the best of both worlds. Just this week we got pristine copies of Night of the Living Dead and Silence of the Lambs. More and more classic films are being issued in 4K and we now finally have home video versions that either rival or surpass the theatrical exhibition. I have never been so satisfied when I comb through my collection. I’m really surprised when I read complaints about upgrading gear. It’s technology, it evolves, it gets better. As new technology comes out so does better releases. This has been happening since the 80’s and people are still confused by this? If you want the best possible in home movie experience you will have to upgrade your gear. It’s always been this way and it ain’t gonna change now.

I’m sorry but I’m so tired of reading complaints about the lack of remastered Blu-rays in the 4K threads. It’s played.

In for the first one for sure and maybe the second. Both the sequels suck but The Lost World has the scene with the two TRex's that may be my favorite scene in the series and the ending in California is fun. Only saw the third one once and don't feel the need to change that.

Love the color schemes on the first three (though I've always associated Lost World with green, for some reason), but the floating heads stuff sucks. At least they got World right.

IMO, DH2-3 aren't bad. Unlike Matrix or JP sequels.

Since they did a remaster of the first for the 3D release which was good...I hope we get a new one for these UHDs.
Anyone know if these were scanned from 2k or 4k DI?

Exactly. Go out and buy a 4K set-up and quit whining in a 4K thread about it - keep the whining in the BD thread. I would like to see the mods start cracking down on this.

The purpose of UHD BD is not to support BD.
