There probably won’t be anything Kelvin related unless they ever do a crossover (could be fun seeing that universe at a further point in time), at most they will probably be some mention of Ambassador Spock missing in action, most likely presumed dead. You can almost be certain there will be reference to Discovery at some point.

Supposedly it will mention the Hobus star and Romulus being destroyed, et cetera, the Prime timeline stuff that gives rise to the first Abrams film's plot. Does that count? The specifics of the Kelvinverse films presumably won't be mentioned other than that, since you can't see into the Abrams timeline if your vantage point is in the Prime.

The guy that did the Star Trek short, "Calypso" is working on this series. If you have not seen that short yet, it was really well done. The details released so far for this series sound perfect.

Also I don't think Patrick Stewart would have done this series if they didn't have a really awesome idea in mind. Patrick Stewart doesn't strike me as the "want more money" type either. I think he genuinely believes in this new show.

Recent Kurtzman comments:

"The mandate was to make it a more psychological show, a character study about this man in his emeritus years. There are so few shows that allow a significantly older protagonist to be the driver…What happens when circumstances have conspired to not give him the happiest of endings? Hopefully, it’s a reinforcement of [‘Trek’ creator Gene] Roddenberry’s vision of optimism. He’s going to have to go through deep valleys to get back to the light."

Unlike Star Trek: Discovery, the Picard-Series will be available on Amazon Prime Video outside the US.

My mind when Discovery was announced: "I'm not going to subscribe to CBS's streaming for a single tv show."
My mind when this was announced: "I'm not going to subscribe to CBS's streaming for a tv show."

Now: MAYBE I'll pay for a single month at the end of the season to watch both shows.

Unless amazon video lets me use VPN to watch it "from" outside of the U.S.

Netflix won't let me do it.

I’m 99% looking forward to it, but 1% not looking forward to not seeing Picard so old. Nothing against the aged, just that feeling of slight sadness when seeing someone you hold in high esteem looking so old.

I wish they could have released a better first image of Picard. That almost looks like it could have just been taken from a TMZ video of Stewart at LAX or something. Haha! Nothing really Star Trek about it.

Still, I'm cautiously optimistic about this show. CBS All Access didn't seem that great when my brother and I checked it out once before. But we'll probably try it again once the show is released. If it's good then I'll probably just keep up with it by buying the Blu-rays as they're released. (Since Discovery is getting Blus, I figure this will, too.)

Isn’t it the same outfit he wore in ALL GOOD THINGS just a different colour?

True. Still gives me a warm feeling knowing that a childhood icon is still out there doing his thing.

Seeing those VOY uniforms in 2019 makes me very happy.

Yeah, those help quite a bit.

Now, there's always a slight chance they may only be Academy uniforms, though. But still... they look right.

And with the current US Army going back to WW2 era based uniforms, Starfleet going back to a 30-year-old style can be reconciled with reality if one is that anal about it!

Also, is that the period correct All Good Things/Timeless commbadge?

I get the feeling it’s not going to be a TNG 2.0. Which is fine, I just hope people are ready for a Picard that might be quite different to the Starship Captain he was when we last saw him.

I'm thinking Picard is going to be a bitter old man with no hope.
Remember, he's the last on the family line.
His brother and nephew were killed, off-screen in Generations.
Starfleet doesn't much trust him after the Borg Incident, nor Insurrection.

Still thinking he should be Starfleet Academy's groundskeeper, the role Ray Walston had as Boothby on TNG.
