Probably the latter, but until release day one can always dream.

To be fair The Little Mermaid in particular didn't have all that much tampering compared to their "restorations" of earlier films, though still had a decent amount of smearing as I recall.
The original animation cells didn't have grain, so there's 100% logic behind scrubbing it out. Not saying it's right, just saying. A non-grain version is the closest representation of how the original animation cells looked, despite the fact that the only way to animate them was to photograph them onto film which added grain.

Was hoping we were done with this nonsense after they got Peter Pan right but I guess not. Guess I'll have to keep my older copy as well.

I understand your point and get that you don't want it wiped away, but the same argument could be made for live action movies.

Exactly. "The actor's face didn't have grain on it; but the only way to get that face up on the screen was to use film, which added grain. If we scrub away the grain, we'll finally be able to see what the cameraman saw through the lens, not what got corrupted by getting recorded on film."

The animation cels were intended to be recorded on film. The cels were raw ingredients; film was the final product.

Yes, The Lion King digital copy code that came with the 4K UHD Blu-ray release does redeem in 4K quality. It also ports to Movies Anywhere in 4K. iTunes does not support Disney titles in 4K, but you can watch it in UHD on Vudu and FandangoNow currently.

There is still some grain seen in the previously restored HD versions as well.
We should all thank the 3D for that. If the 3D hadn't happened, Disney would have used that horrible Platinum Edition master with the colors all wrong.

I saw the pre order of the standard blu ray at Amazon. Does anyone have a link for the 4K pre order on Amazon?

The Best Buy steelbook is soooo fugly (aside from the interior). I'll be glad to have my Target Exclusive in my collection.

You have been deceived lol. Bunch of previous press release photos have shown sharp corners only to have the rounded corners when they're actually released (take a look at all 3 of the Avengers 4K releases showing sharp corners). Don't get your hopes up too high, because Disney has definitely stuck with the rounded corners as much as 3D is gone. Plus, rounded corners = mickey mouse ears lol.

Wow Pinocchio looks a lot better on the right. I prefer the richer look, not the washed out look.

Ugh. Guess I’ll have to settle for the steelbook. Not the biggest fan of the artwork on that one.

The disc will be inside. The wrapping is irrelevant to me. Looking forward to this one!

I hope The Little Mermaid UHD won’t be as dark as the Lion King UHD.

I might get this because it was done by Paige O'Hara. I can get it then have it autographed by her (I have her autograph on some B&tB pics). It's not bad as far as artwork; I've seen worse.
