i was looking forward to this one, the cast was great, i was thoroughly entertained throughout and nevertheless left the theater feeling like i kiiiinda didn't get it. lots of intriguing setups but a bit of a nonsensical ending, imo

Wildly unexpected film. More of a psychological thriller with some nice horror elements, dark humor, and a commentary on snobbery. Anna Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes were as impressive as always. Really everyone was great across the board. My whole audience was into it and I thought it was one of the best films of the year so far.
Highly recommended. |

I had a weird feeling watching this last night,
The movie itself felt claustrophobic and stressful, wish of course is the point of the plot, that was achieved. It was a good theater experience. But when I left the theater my friend and I we both felt it was an empty experience with a sour taste afterwards. I will give it a 5/10 rating. On the other hand I watched also "Triangle of Sadness" and hello, hello, hello! this was histericaly funny and a masterpiece! |

Barbarian was never even intended to be a theatrical release; Was originally supposed to be a HULU thing until test reactions came back enthusiastic, so Disney just threw the movie into a bunch of cinemas and bingo bango.

![]() Funny you said that. the same thing happen with Smile. it was originally suppose to be a Paramount+ movie. But tested well and put it in theaters. $215 million dollars later. Sure they're glad they did that. Movie cost $17 million to make. So yeah they made their money back. |

Art should ideally be enjoyed by two different parties: The artists that make it, and the consumers it is intended for. But there can come a point at which the artists become tired and disillusioned by the demands of the consumers, who want more of the same, over and over, as they come to see someone else's life's work as a disposable commodity. And in the middle, are the monied interests that drive the cycle, and reap the financial rewards. This is the thesis statement of The Menu. Making it quite ironic that the film is owned and distributed by Di$ney.
I enjoyed the movie a lot. I'm not a foodie; I like to eat, but my pallette isn't sophisticated enough to appreciate the fancy stuff. But the early parts, where it's just presenting the characters and the menu, were quite interesting. Once things kick into gear, it becomes intense very quickly. It's got good characters, with the always-excellent Ralph Finnes presiding. There are some things that don't hold up to scrutiny, but that's par for the course for a thriller. Recommended! P.S. I would buy a 4K UHD if they release one. |

I like the way a writer/director friend of mine put it: Menu is a genre pic that prioritizes story over themes whereas Triangle prizes its (socialist critique) themes over story. Triangle is very . . . European. You called it, CraigBarr2003: No UHD BD. ![]() |
