Future movie releases is the very least of my concern right now. What's more concerning and important is this global pandemic that's going on, and getting vaccine to cure and save people's lives, and to live again, not what the next movies are going to be. What good are movies if you're too critically ill to watch them, and on your death bed.

I think the forum is the perfect place to talk about this. There always has and always will be greater concerns in the world. Discussing this aspect of it fits to what this forum is. Sometimes it’s therapeutic to just let your mind go in another direction.

This is true, but you can't escape reality. If we could just wave a magic wand and make this all disappear it will be wonderful, but we can't. It's going to be there.

For anyone interested, here's an opposing point of view: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/amphtml...ack-to-normal?
"But what’s happening to our entertainment is only reflecting what is happening to the way society works now: We have moved online, and it is hard to imagine going back."

I totally disagree. We were already a bit over the top online and now people will start to get sick of it. All I see it posts about people thirsting to go to sporting events, movie theaters, clubs, dinners, the beach, etc. I don't think people will end up even more locking inside, online but instead more rushing to go out to theaters, etc. (but only after we hopefully have an effective vaccine or treatment, before that, I think people will be wary and an early movie theater opening experiment might see huge hits to expected box office).

I hope we can go back to normal after this. Don't get me wrong, I'd be down to support movies like Mulan/Black Widow/Quiet Place releasing to streaming if that did happen but I don't want the theater experience to disappear either. The effect that this virus has on all hobbies will be huge because digital is available for a majority of them. Comics, video games, movies, music, etc.

You just said all 3 films I was waiting to go see in theaters. Also, add No Time to Die. I think when theaters reopen and are in full swing this summer a lot of smaller films may see far larger box office returns. Hollywood is going to have to put something on the movie screens. Some shelved or DTV releases may stand a chance seeing big screen debuts.

I'm betting "this summer" ain't gonna happen. I would love to be wrong, however.

Frankly, many people will no longer have the discretionary income for expensive movie tickets when they do open back up. In the U.S., at least, we may be trending toward a full blown Depression.

Very possible, but, I want to keep my head up going up this mountain. There will be plenty of time to drop it on the way back down.

"This fall" is what we should be saying. Get some movies in before the cold comes back and revives the virus.

Summer Movie Season Will now start this fall with A Quiet Place 2, perfect movie to start to get movie audiences back in theaters, it was tracking quite well. I’m ok with this because yes people’s health right now is more important than movies right now. Some use them as an escape from reality, but this one the world has never dealt with before & it’s affecting many lives. There’s still plenty of releases new & older movies being released in 4K though June. Stay safe & healthy out there folks!

I doubt this summer is happening and if it does, they should expect maybe 80% less box office than they originally did. If they delay until after vaccine or safe and highly effective treatment then I could see maybe 20% higher box office take than expected due to pent up demand to go out to see movies (although then again economic issues might counter the increase so maybe it would still come in lower, but maybe 10-20% lower rather than 80%). And cold type viruses usually starting popping up again by the very first week in September, so not sure I really a good window until next spring hopefully. Maybe if it really gets knocked down by heat and humidity, first three weeks of August??

What I was trying to say is, a smaller film could see a larger box office return as there may not be as much competition with other bigger films pushed back to the fall season. Also, it may be other smaller films that normally would bypass the theater altogether may now find themselves able to contend as a theatrical release.

Anyone hoping for warm weather to put an end to this might want to check what's happening in Australia and New Zealand right now.

It’s hitting the peak all over the world really, it took almost 3 months before the virus subsided in China where this started. Try to be a little more positive about all this though, yes I get people react different, but a pessimistic view doesn’t help either. I’m still out there working my butt off putting my health & well-being at risk, keep your head up man.

It's going to be a very nasty 3 or so months for much of the world as we work our way through the worst of this pandemic. But personally I believe we'll come out of it on the other end, maybe not stronger than before, but in a position to work ourselves back up to it. Maybe this will even reunite the increasingly fractured Western world as we realize that we're much stronger pooling our resources than when we're bickering and infighting while other powers overtake us.

The hardest part of it, aside from the obvious health disaster and loss of life, is the economic fallout from the measures being taken to slow it down. The (hopefully mostly temporary) mass layoffs are just devastating. We'll just need to trust that the underlying economy before all this started was relatively stable and when it comes time for people to go back out, our Governments have some kind of plan to give the whole thing a shot of adrenaline to restart everything.

I think our hobby will come out of it okay, in the long run. There may be a dearth of new releases for the latter half of 2020, but hopefully boutique labels are able to pick up the slack and keep us entertained with catalog favourites.

The industries I fear for most are restaurants (in many cases, any more than 1 month of being shutdown will be enough to permanently close a place), brick & mortar small businesses, and travel/tourism. Those will be the slowest to start back up.

Ah, but HAS it truly subsided in China...? I don't trust their numbers any further than I can throw the CCP.

Even the U.S. numbers are lower than they should be because they aren't counting those who died at home... only those at hospitals and care facilities. The same with those who had less severe symptoms and chose to self quarantine.
